Budget Intern Office of Council Member Carlina Rivera - New York, NY 10009 Part-time, Internship Budget Intern at the Office of New York City Council Member Carlina Rivera Summer 2019 Council Member Carlina Rivera represents the 2nd New York City Council District which includes the diverse neighborhoods of the East Village, Flatiron, Gramercy Park, Rose Hill, Kips Bay, Murray Hill and the Lower East Side. She is dedicated to many issues, including housing affordability, criminal justice, education equality, and small business survival. The office of City Council Member Carlina Rivera is searching for a self-motivated, enthusiastic, highly organized, and detail-oriented student with a passion for public policy. Interns will be expected to help with and learn about the budget process, which includes scheduling meetings with community based organizations, researching and analyzing budget requests, and attending committee hearings. This is an unpaid internship with part-time and full-time positions available. Specific hours are negotiable. DESIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS This internship is open to all undergraduate/graduate students. Interns should possess the following: * A strong interest in policy, government budgets, or social justice work * Coursework or employment relevant to public policy, non-profit development, or data analytics * Keen interest in current events, New York City politics, and economics * Excellent written/verbal communications * Ability to work independently and handle multiple responsibilities * Spanish and/or Cantonese or Mandarin fluency (speech/writing skills) preferred Hired interns will gain valuable work experience in government operations, office management, and local policymaking.
