Technology/Computing/Informatics Internship/Co-Op Manager Job no: 505341 Work type: Full Time Administrative Location: Indianapolis, IN Categories: Administrative/Professional General Description of Position: This is a grant-funded, soft-money position through the end of the grant period (June 30, 2020). Actively engage potential employers and students with activities that lead to internship and work-based learning opportunities of CTE students which will assist in the placement of graduates in related jobs. This includes experiential education (job shadowing, internships, co-operative experiences) and employment services and counseling (job-seeking skills instruction, development of on-the job-training experiences, and other placement activities). Major Responsibilities: Customer Service * Demonstrate a strong customer service and/or student advocacy through a positive attitude of approachability, adaptability, strong problem-solving and desire to identify and support student success. * Engage in behaviors that create an inclusive environment in which all people are valued and supported. * Go beyond the easiest or surface answer for a student and get to the root cause of the problem, question or issue to solve it as quickly and professionally as possible. Leadership/Planning * Actively engage Career and Technical Education (CTE) students in career development and placement related activities. * Coordinate events that will provide an opportunity for students in the Schools of Technology, Computing and Informatics programs to connect with employers through on campus recruiting sessions and job fairs. To collaborate with other colleagues to obtain placement and transfer updates from students who are nearing graduation from a CTE program. * Develop and maintain relationships with key businesses which have potential placements and internships. Programming * Increase the number of students who participate in work-based learning activities related to their technical education * Increase the number of students who achieve employment at graduation * Increase or maintain the number of students participating in HireIvy and placement activities prior to graduation * Increase or maintain the number of CTE students provided career counseling in STEM related occupations * Coordinate outreach efforts to all CTE students who have applied for graduation. The goal is to obtain placement and/or transfer status information. Create and share report of all data collected. * Promote job opportunities, including internships, related to CTE majors to faculty and students with the goal of higher application rates for the posted positions. Student Support * Advise/coach students by appointment and on a walk-in basis. * Lead workshops and presentations in classrooms and to student groups. Technical Support * Prepare and Maintain necessary forms, files and reports regarding career counseling, placements, industry contacts and other related activities. * Use computer to enter and access student data and to complete work assignments. * Enter student data on Ivy Appointment, Ivy Advising, Banner and other institutional software for effective tracking of student progress. * Attend scheduled staff meetings. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelors degree required. Experience in marketing or counseling in the higher education environment a plus. Preferred Qualifications: Prefer a minimum two years experience. Background experience in marketing of intangibles in the corporate business community preferred. Other Requirements: This position requires excellent oral and written communication skills. Interpersonal and public speaking skills are essential. Candidates must be able to handle multiple tasks and the complexities of project management of several concurrent activities. Ability to problem solve and to make decisions. Must have the ability to work as a team member, work under stress and be able to process information quickly. Demonstrated ability to provide workshops and presentations in classrooms. Computer knowledge required including Word, Excel, Access, Power Point, and Outlook. Must be able to travel locally. Bachelors degree required. Prior experience in event planning, career advising, employment assistance and higher education is critical.
