The PR Intern will take responsibility for providing assistance and coordination for projects in the Communications Department; therefore, the candidate should have excellent written and verbal communications skills and a sense of what is newsworthy, as well as the ability to manage multiple projects at the same time. Conditions of Employment This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefited, student position. Employment in all positions with University Enterprises, Inc. is dependent upon the mutual consent of University Enterprises, Inc. and the employee. This means that either University Enterprises, Inc. or the employee can, at any time, terminate the employment relationship at will, with or without cause. Work Schedule Flexible hours, Monday through Friday, between 8:00am 5:00pm. Must be available at least two days per week, preferably three. Final schedule to be determined between supervisor and student. Additional Work Schedule Student Assistants and Graduate Student Assistants generally work up to 20 hours per work week (Sunday-Saturday) during the academic year and up to 40 hours per work week during breaks; (Winter, Spring and Summer). Another work schedule option for students working off campus through the California Intern Network is to work 28 hours per week, year-round. To learn more please visit www.visitcalifornia.com Majors/Fields of Study Business Administration, Communication Studies, Marketing, Recreation, Parks and Tourism Administration Minimum Qualifications * Strong written and verbal communication skills and a firm understanding of AP style; editing/proofing experience a plus. * Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). * Strong ability to conduct research. * Strong organizational skills. * Communicate and work well with others in a professional office environment and feel comfortable communicating with media and industry partners. * Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines. * Able to work effectively with minimum supervision; initiative is fundamental. * Previous experience and competency with Intranet and electronic content management systems a plus. * Experience using both Windows and Macintosh operating systems a plus. Prerequisites Must be a college student attending classes during the regular term (Fall, Spring and Winter, if applicable), at one of the accredited colleges or universities on our affiliation list. Students must be enrolled at a minimum in: six semester units or nine quarter units for undergraduate students; four semester units or six quarter units for graduate students. Position Description Preferred Qualifications Duties and Responsibilities Global PR Content Development & Media Center Coordination: * Work with the PR team on managing content posted to the Media Center; research and develop story ideas; write and edit public relations content including press releases and Whats New in California publication; distribute media leads to industry partners; blog; and organize global media gallery. PR/Media Program Support: * Provide support for Visit California media events and support press trip research, itinerary development and coordination. Other Duties as Assigned: * Assist with other special projects and tasks as assigned by Public Relations Team. This may also include assisting the Public Affairs Manager with projects and/or crises as needed. Intern agrees to perform all such services in a positive and productive manner, to complete all assignments according to schedules established by Visit California, and to deliver all tangible work products in the form and according to the specifications set forth in the written requests for services authorized by Visit California. Physical Requirements Sit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; use of office equipment including computer workstations, telephones, calculators, copiers, printers, scanners, and fax machines, with or without a reasonable accommodation.
