Pelican is proud to be offering a 9-week Summer Internship Program from June 10th to August 8th. Interns will typically work 32 hours per week and have the opportunity to receive hands-on work experience and participate on special projects. Interns will also attend presentations by Pelican leadership as well as participate in special networking and social activities. THE INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING INTERN POSITION will focus on either Logistics Support or Warehouse Design. Logistics support will assist with the design and development a software tool to help the sales and shipping team quickly reference shipping dimensions of our components and finished goods. The tool will also be a database for dimensions to ultimately be loaded into our SAP system. This tool will help our logistics team to be more efficient and timely when creating quotations. Hands-on practical work will include learning the product line and updating outbound area layout and work instructions. Warehouse Design will focus on developing plans to redesign/organize the warehouse to match demand. This will include analyzing historical data, calculating safety stocks, creating a tool to measure and update the number of pallet locations needed for each component. You will be asked to provide recommendations for the warehouse design. To qualify for this internship, you should have very good analytical, verbal and written communication skills and be organized, methodical, detail oriented. You should also be able to work independently and be willing to learn how to apply statistics in manufacturing supply chain operations. Proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint is necessary. Students majoring in Operations, Engineering or Computer Science are encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to children and relatives of Pelican employees, but external candidates will be considered if we are unable to fill positions. Candidates should be actively attending college and entering into their junior or senior year of college in Fall 2019.
