Using a holistic approach, CCSA supports children and families, helps child care professionals improve the quality of early education children receive and ensures all families can afford and access the high-quality early care and education that is so important for a childs early development. Through its Meal Services Program, CCSA also provides nutritious meals to children at child care centers, where they may eat 50-100 percent of their meals. Our T.E.A.C.H. Early Childhood�, Child Care WAGE$� and Infant-Toddler Educator AWARD$ programs give child care professionals the means to obtain an education and supplement their salary based on that education. GAIN MORE EXPERIENCE WITH A NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION JOB TITLE: Communications Intern OFFICE LOCATION: Chapel Hill DIVISION: Operations SERVICE AREA: Orange/Durham/Wake DEPARTMENT: Dev/Com CLASSIFICATION: Exempt DIRECT SUPERVISORS: Manager, Development & Communications HOURS PER WEEK: Will Vary JOB SUMMARY: The Communications Intern will gain valuable insight into the world of nonprofit communications and resource development by working directly with the CCSA Development and Communications division. Interns at CCSA are exposed to a wide variety of projects. Here you will be part of the team and involved in the creative process. Primary responsibilities will include supporting the Development and Communications Managers with inbound marketing requests from other divisions as well as helping us execute our strategies?including drafting and implementing fundraising and awareness campaigns, creating graphics, updating our website, creating content for e-newsletter and blog posts, collateral materials, proofreading and more. All interns participate in the daily operations of the agency and understand that this includes necessary office tasks and paperwork. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Your responsibilities as an intern will vary depending on the length of your internship, curriculum requirements and areas of interest. * Implement and help manage an editorial planning calendar for organization-wide social media platforms * Create and curate content for organization-wide social media platforms as well as monitor social media platforms * Gather and analyze promotional materials for CCSAs programs and divisions and work with those divisions to determine their need for brochures, updated logos, training materials, presentation materials and other supporting materials * Under the guidance of the Development and Communication Managers, write and design promotional materials as needed based on the above analysis * Support design and communication needs for the organizations events * Provide input into the short-term and long-term communication plan for the organization * Collaborate on design projects resulting in clear, engaging graphics and brand identity compliant communications. Projects may include branded collateral materials, video, direct mail pieces, website and social media graphics, posters, flyers, special event photos and other marketing materials as needed * Assist with editing, proofreading and communication of changes on projects that originate with our organization or other graphic designer * Assist with writing/editing content for quarterly e-newsletter, press releases, feature releases, blog posts, etc. * Attend and participate in staff meetings, if applicable * Formally present programs and/or activities you have developed or been involved with * Become familiar with the roles of the professional and paraprofessional staff at CCSA * Become familiar with all aspects and services provided by CCSA * Become aware of community services, resources and educational facilities available to program participants * Perform other communications tasks as assigned SPECIAL SKILLS: * Strong writing, analytical and reading comprehension skills * Exceptional organizational skills and detail-orientation * Excellent time management skills to meet deadlines * Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with internal and external clients * Working-knowledge of Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop and/or Canva * Experience managing non-personal Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn and/or YouTube accounts preferred * Be comfortable in working with both internal and external clients in all situations and under various degrees of stress * Strong initiative/self-starter; dependability; punctuality LEARNING OBJECTIVES: * Successfully research, plan, implement and evaluate public relations campaigns * Successfully author copy for written materials and construct images to create engaging, mission-focused messaging for use in collateral materials * Develop a keen eye for branding standards and consistency * Successfully advance graphic projects by editing, creating/enhancing graphics and produce a finished product * Identify and implement the elements of social media strategy coordinated across multiple platforms * Gain an introductory understanding of nonprofit communications, philanthropy and issues of education, financial stability and health in the local community BENEFITS: * Build your portfolio of work * Flexible scheduling * Great networking opportunity * Intern may be eligible for college credits * Be part of a leading national nonprofit organization * Professional mentoring EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: * Undergraduate and graduate students majoring in communications, public relations, marketing, journalism, English or other related programs SPECIAL WORKING REQUIREMENTS: * An automobile at his/her disposal; a valid, non-suspended NC driver's license and a current automobile liability policy with continuous coverage.
