About The Position This part time temporary Intern position provides professional level staff assistance in the areas of research and analysis, procedural studies and technical planning for a variety of general administrative or specialized technical projects and programs in support of the objectives of the Water Quality Department. This is a 3 -month summer internship program that provides professional level staff assistance with the following: Conduct field visits to 22 golf courses to examine compliance with Water Reuse Rules. Conducts field operational observations and researches permit requirements. Prepares inspection reports outlining findings for submittal to Water Quality and Water Reclamation management. Other duties related to drinking water, stormwater, or industrial pretreatment, as necessary. The intern will work approximately 20-40 hours per week, three to five days per week (Mon-Fri). These hours are during the day. This is a stand-alone position classification and has no supervisory responsibilities. This position does not provide benefits. Selection Process: Applicants whose education, training and experience most closely meet the needs of this position may be invited to participate in a selection process to include oral board interview and skills assessment. Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience Must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university degree program in engineering, chemistry or related scientific or technical field. Preferred: Computer proficient with experience in Microsoft software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), and various database and research methodologies. Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements Dependent upon assignment, may be required to possess and maintain a valid unrestricted Arizona driver's license with no major citations within the past 39 months prior to the start date. Other pertinent licenses and/or certifications may be required of some positions depending on division/section assignment. Essential Functions Provides staff assistance to the Water Quality Division. Communicates with the general public, other City employees, management and public officials in order to research administrative or operational problem areas, conduct surveys and report recommendations and results. Analyzes procedures, drafts studies, reports and/or manuals to report findings and propose solutions or makes recommendations for improvement. Designs and revises forms for records and reports. Attends related training sessions, various meetings, citizens committees and citizen boards and commissions, as directed. Conducts various field visits, as directed. Collects, assembles and analyzes data to assist in resolving procedural, operational and other work-related problems. Work Environment/Physical Demands Work is performed in a normal City office environment and field setting. Lift and carry materials weighing up to 30 pounds.
