They're hands-on, working on shipping projects and making valuable contributions to Automatic Labs and our parent company, SiriusXM. Join our internship program and learn about the world of Automotive consumer products and get hands-on experience in your field of study. As a hardware engineer, you'll be working with our hardware device designed in-house, whose radio and OBD diagnostic interfaces, along with our device firmware and a custom machine-learning based data pipeline, power a variety of services and solutions for consumers, insurance carriers, car dealerships and much more. The work includes the development and debugging of new prototypes and test circuits, and requires the use of basic EE lab equipment such as scopes and multimeters, and use of command line interface scripts. You'll exchange information with the Automatic hardware engineers informally and regularly, along with more formal delivery of test results. Duties and Responsibilities: Assemble, test, and characterize hardware product prototypes and test fixtures, with guidance from HW engineers, including execution and modification of test scripts. Learn the use of software tools related to hardware development such as JIRA and TestRail to store and analyze results, and use these to communicate completion rates and issues found with test. Work hands-on in the hardware lab to prototype boards and board modifications, through soldering and wiring. Supervisory Responsibilities: None. Minimum Qualifications: Must be enrolled in a college, university or trade school to qualify. Students who have completed at least two years of college are preferred. The candidate should be pursuing a degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science. Experience related to hardware development, or otherwise working with computers or other eletronics devices is desired. You must be 18 years of age or older. Requirements and General Skills: Interpersonal skills and ability to interact and work with staff at all levels. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently and in a team environment. Commitment to "internal client" and customer service principles. Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. Spelling, grammar, proofreading and editing skills. Strong organizational skills and attention to details. Must have legal right to work in the U.S. Technical Skills: Experience in the use of basic EE lab test gear, such as scopes and multimeters. Ability to read schematics and understand basic digital and analog circuit principles. Some knowledge of languages suitable for HW development and test is preferred (e.g. Python). Thorough knowledge of MS-Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) and/or Google Apps (Google Docs, Sheets etc.). Please note that all SiriusXM internships are paid.
