The intern will work with a team of brand, content, communications, public relations, and marketing professionals. The Communications Intern will be responsible for assisting in creating and executing activities that increase reach and engagement of Special Olympics audiences. Through content creation, the Communications Intern will ignite programming in over 170 countries creating a path to a unified world. This position offers the chance to take on meaningful projects and to further ones professional development through organized skills training sessions and the work itself. Job Type: Internship This is a temporary internship lasting approximately nine weeks, starting on or around June 3, 2019 and ending on or around August 2, 2019. The intern will report to the Manager, Communications at Special Olympics office in Washington, DC, 35 hours per week. The 2019 Communications Intern will be responsible for the following duties: Support the Brand, Content & Communications team in daily administrative tasks Assist in communications activities (e.g. creating content for print and digital) Assist with coordination among internal departments as well as external partners/agencies to ensure that materials and needs are met effectively Develop and maintain all proper documentation & files Assist with any other tasks assigned (general communications & marketing) Required Qualifications: Must be detail-orientated with the ability to handle multiple tasks in a timely and professional manner Demonstrated written and verbal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with general population audiences Experience in copywriting and editing Outstanding organizational and planning abilities Proficient command of English Proficiency with all Microsoft Word and Excel applications Affinity to Special Olympics mission and goals Desired Skills: Experience or studies in public relations, journalism, advertising, or marketing field Knowledge of social media best practices and trends Proficient command of Spanish, French, or Arabic Past/current volunteer experience working with Special Olympics athletes is a plus Experience in graphic design and knowledge of Adobe suite a plus Majors: Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Advertising, Marketing, Non-Profit Management Special Olympics provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any type without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state or local laws.
