Summary : This is an engineering internship opportunity for a current full-time engineering student during the summer of 2018. You will gain hands-on experience with assignments that familiarize yourself with equipment and tools used by working Mechanical Engineers in the exciting field of high frequency electronic packaging for the defense electronics industry. At the San Diego facility, products are designed and manufactured to protect our ships, aircraft, and most importantly, our country. Join the Cobham San Diego team and gain valuable engineering experience while helping protect U.S. and allied forces around the world. Essential Functions and Duties : Review and manipulate tooling and packaging layouts using 2D and 3D CAD software. Create, check and release formal engineering documentation. Interface with and/or direct machinists, technicians, assemblers and suppliers to execute hardware builds and testing. Perform basic tooling design and implementation under the direction of engineers and managers. Provide engineering support of existing products under the direction of engineers, and managers. Support engineering initiatives under the direction of senior engineers and managers. Minimum Job Qualifications : (The following qualifications can be acquired and demonstrated through experience, education and/or vocational training.) Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree with a minimum of two years of college level course work at an accredited four-year university with a major in mechanical engineering or a similar technical discipline. Minimum GPA of 3.0. Basic knowledge of AutoCAD and SolidWorks or exposure to similar 2D and 3D CAD software tools. Basic knowledge of electronics. Basic knowledge of industry standard drafting, dimensioning and tolerance practices. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to use common hand, power and shop tools. Able to work effectively as a part of an integrated design team.
