Position Details Position Information Vacancy Type Temporary Is Internal Transfer Only No Working Title Research Assistant - Rail Intern - Data Analysis Salary Range Anticipated Hiring Range $10.00 - $15.00 Hourly Position Number 06KCM3 Work Schedule Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm Full Time Equivalent (FTE) 1 Department 062001 - Institute For Trans Research & Department Institute for Transportation Research and Education Job City & State Raleigh, North Carolina Essential Job Duties The NCDOT Rail Interns primary job function will consist of providing technical support to Data Analysis and Inventory Management personnel on a variety of tasks in a railroad and engineering office environment. Responsibilities will include, but may not be limited to: Create, analyze, report, convert, or transfer data using ArcGIS software Design, program, or model GIS applications and/or procedures related to railroad crossing data, engineering projects, studies, crashes, and railroad incidents Collect, query, analyze, and update rail crossing database Field work and data gathering activities involving railroad/highway related projects Correspond with other staff and customers of NCDOT Rail Division Other Work/Responsibilities Other technical and/or administrative tasks as assigned Position may occasionally be requested to enter railroad property right-of-way and navigate railroad tracks. Minimum Experience/Education Taking classes toward a degree in civil, mechanical, or electrical engineering or a related discipline is preferred but not required.
