Data Science Intern University Enterprises, Inc. - Sacramento, CA4.2 1 hour agoPart-time Apply Now Sacramento County is looking for a Data Science Intern. This position supports one of the teams goals to utilize data to derive useful and accessible insights to improve the customer experience. This role requires someone with a unique blend of technical expertise, a passion for using data for good, and an ability to quickly adapt to new challenges. Were looking for a teammate comfortable transforming messy data into something useful to improve customers lives and has the coding skills to use automated techniques that make the tasks easier and scalable. Conditions of Employment This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefited, student position. Employment in all positions with University Enterprises, Inc. is dependent upon the mutual consent of University Enterprises, Inc. and the employee. Work Schedule Flexible hours, Monday through Friday, between 8:00am and 5:00pm. Final schedule to be determined between supervisor and student. Additional Work Schedule Student Assistant and Graduate Assistant employees generally work up to 20 hours per work week (Sunday Saturday) during the academic year and up to 40 hours per work week during breaks; Winter, Spring & Summer. Student Assistants are not permitted to telecommute or work remotely. For more information about Strategic Planning and Data Analytics in the Department of Human Assistance visit http://www.dha.saccounty.net Majors/Fields of Study Computer Science and Engineering, Social Science, Social Work Minimum Qualifications * Exceptional skills in data management and analysis, especially with Excel, Access, R, Tableau, or ArcGIS, etc. * A problem solver, comfortable working in under-resourced settings, with diversity of tasks; team player. * College-level coursework in Public Policy, Public Health, or Sociology and Statistics, Regression Analysis, Computer Science, etc. * Knowledge of public health or human services sector. * Strong curiosity, attention to detail and excellent communication skills. Prerequisites Must be a college student attending classes during the regular term (Fall, Spring and Winter, if applicable), at an accredited college or university. Students must be enrolled at a minimum in; six semester units or nine quarter units for undergraduate students; four semester units or six quarter units for graduate students. Position Description Preferred Qualifications * Ideally have some coding experience. Duties and Responsibilities * Access, extract, clean (some of this data is messy!), integrate and help analyze data from multiple sources for customer-centered decision support and analysis. * Monitor database including troubleshooting. * Lead team with query creation and optimization. * Run regular reports of data to check for quality. Physical Requirements Sit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; use of office equipment including computer workstations, telephones, calculators, copiers, printers, scanners, and fax machines, with or without a reasonable accommodation.
