Works under general supervision, assisting with a variety of planning and development tasks associated with the Texas Department of Public Safety policies and plans. Conduct research on homeland security-related and other cybersecurity related topics assigned by supervisor. Works under moderate supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement. Function as a team member of an incident response team monitoring cyber security events requiring focused response, containment, investigation, and remediation. 2. Collect and analyze event information and performs threat or target analysis duties. 3. Interpret, analyze, and report all events and anomalies in accordance with incident response procedures. 4. Function as a single point of contact for accepting, collecting, sorting, ordering, and passing on incoming information for reported events and incidents. 5. Assign an initial priority and an associated tracking number to new events and incidents. 6. Facilitate and expedite the tracking, handling, and reporting of all security events and incidents in accordance with departmental policies. 7. Understand advanced attack capabilities, characteristics, and define signatures for detecting 8. Produce technical, operational and executive level reports on security events and incidents. 9. Manage firewall, web content filtering, secure email gateways, Intrusion Prevention Systems, Intrusion Detection Systems, and proxy services. 10. Identify the need to upgrade or enhance network component capabilities in response to network problems and deficiencies, e.g. degradation of service. 11. Develop requirements for the acquisition of security software, hardware, and services. 12. Attends work regularly and observes approved work hours in accordance with agency leave and attendance policies. 13. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS and REQUIREMENTS Education Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university and taking coursework relevant to a Computer Science or Computer Security related field. Experience None. Licensure and/or Certification If driving is required, must possess a valid driver license from state of residence. Regulatory Knowledge Working knowledge of, or the ability to rapidly assimilate information related to TXDPS, State and Federal regulations, legislation, guidelines, policies and procedures. State of Texas Benefits and Retirement Information: https://www.ers.texas.gov/ DPS employee who is selected for a position in their current salary group and state title will be transferred with no salary change. DPS employee who is selected for a position in their current salary group with a new state title may receive an increase up to 3.4%.
