Overview: This unpaid internship provides a learning opportunity for up to ten students to obtain ground training experience with an emergency medical service flight organization. Intermountain Life Flight is Utahs leading air ambulance service offering highly specialized medical transport using helicopters, airplanes and ambulances. This is an unpaid internship opportunity. Applicant must be a student in an accredited school for a program that will allow them to obtain university/college credit for an internship class, and meet school program requirements. The selected interns will begin fall semester 2019. Students will participate during approximately September through October 2019. This internship is part-time with hours that will require flexibility due to aircraft and staffing availability. Students must be flexible to participate in classroom training and complete self-study assignments day and evening hours, including weekends. The internship ground training experience will be based at the Intermountain Life Flight hangar at the Salt Lake airport. Experiences Available: The internwill: Attend formal class training and/or complete computer-based training on topics such as 14 CFR 135 regulations, blood borne pathogen awareness, flight management systems, aircraft systems, crew coordination procedures, standard operating procedures and emergency procedures in the CJ-4 aircraft. Develop competence in basic FMS programming and knowledge of the CJ-4s systems, crew coordination procedures, standard procedures and emergency procedures. Participate and be involved in a variety of learning projects: work with the members of the staff to better understand fixed-wing air ambulance flight operations. Attend department meetings and actively participate in knowledge sharing as it relates to the duties of air ambulance flight crew members. Gain knowledge and participate in the daily functions of Life Flight. By the end of the internship, the student will have been exposed to most aspects of fixed-wing air ambulance operations.
