High School Internship as WALEX Assistant Residential Counselor CFM Educational Services - Berkeley, CA 1 day agoPart-time Education * High School Diploma or GED Skills * Leadership Experience * AI Job Nature * Live-in, around-the-clock academic and social program supervision with various roles, duties, and responsibilities throughout the program duration Duration (Session 1) June 28 July 15, 2019 (2.5 weeks) * Check in: 6/28 10AM ; Check out: 7/15 6PM ; Some preparation tasks prior to check-in * 1st week: Coding Nanosatellites by Lawrence Hall of Science * 2nd week: Walex Grand Prix Farewell weekend activity: Mad Science Exploratory Camp (Session 2) July 19 August 5, 2019 (2.5 weeks) * Check in: 7/19 10AM; Check out: 8/5 6PM ; Some preparation tasks prior to check-in * 1st week: Coding Nanosatellites by Lawrence Hall of Science * 2nd week: Walex Grand Prix Farewell weekend activity: Mad Science Exploratory Camp Residence Hall * Unit 2, Ehrman Hall, Berkeley campus Compensation Package The intern is a non-paid position, but with substantial benefits: * Establishing work experience and professional references * Free-of-charge room & board, experiencing college life at UC Berkeley * Free-of-charge weekend excursions & activities such as Six Flags, San Francisco, Computer History Museum, Mad Science Exploratory Camp, etc. * Free-of-charge learning of three fulltime week-long STEM camp programs: 1. Coding Nanosatellites: Learn programming using Scratch, Hummingbird board, and low-earth orbit satellite simulator 2. Walex game tournament and program camp: Get trained by Walex professionals to: 1) play the games and learn using AI on financial investment, 2) learn how to coach school kids to play based on a developed curriculum, syllabus, and game theory. * Potentially getting selected and trained to start up an extra-curriculum Walex club at interns' own high schools - an leadership opportunity that can significantly improve one's college application profile and potentially return in the future to work for Walex camps or other endeavors Job Responsibilities * Assist in supervising students for safety and social learning/cultural immersion * Attend the Lawrence Hall of Science classes, labs, and workshops with students in order to conduct after-hours advising * Attend and assist the Walex game tournament and program camp with students, counselors, and coaches in order to conduct after-hours advising * Assist the Program Director and Residential Counselors in conducting program events (airport arrivals and departures, orientation, workshops, study groups, weekend excursions, etc.) * Chaperone students during weekday classes and weekend activities * Take pictures/videos of students, and file in the program's cloud storage * Foster a positive community learning experience and atmosphere * Enforce program rules to ensure student safety and well-being * Attend to students needs and take proper action if sickness occurs * Perform additional duties as needed Qualifications * Currently grade 10~12 high school students, minimum 16 years of age * Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills, enthusiasm in helping others, and ability to work independently * Ability to live comfortably in the dorm with students * Ability to follow instruction and work collaboratively with others * Ability to demonstrate appropriate behavior at all times and maintain a high standard of ethics and integrity * Flexibility to meet the changing work demands in a dynamic environment * Experience working with international students (rising G4-7) preferred but not mandatory Job Types: Part-time, Temporary, Internship, Contract Salary: $0.00 /hour Education: * High school or equivalent (Required) Additional Compensation: * Other forms Work Location: * One location Working days: * Monday * Tuesday * Wednesday * Thursday * Friday * Sunday * Saturday Full Time Opportunity: * No Typical start time: * 8AM Typical end time: * 9PM
