Gamut Theatre Core Company Intern CATEGORY: Internship Gamut Theatre Group Harrisburg, PA 17101 US CONTACT NAME Aneesa Neibauer Job Details DESCRIPTION Summary of Job: Gamut Theatre Group is seeking a skilled, responsible, and knowledgeable Actor/Teacher Intern (ATI) for its 2019-20 season. Due to the composition of the Core Company for the upcoming season, Gamut is auditioning female applicants only. Gamut Theatre will mentor the ATI on not only acting and teaching, but also many of the operations and systems necessary to run a successful theatre. ATI will have multiple opportunities to act and teach throughout the season. Gamut's mission is to tell classic stories in new and exciting ways. Our vision is a world where all people cherish classic stories and share them with future generations. To execute this mission, Gamut incorporates an actor/manager model and employs a full-time Core Company of 8 artists year-round to oversee all of the primary artistic, technical, and administrative areas of the theatre. All Core Company members divide responsibilities for the smooth running and operation of Gamut Theatre. The ATI will assit other Core Company members as need for the sucess of the company. Candidate must reside within commuting distance to Harrisburg, PA. No housing is currently provided. Compensation: $150 weekly stipend Free parking in downtown Harrisburg 1 week paid vacation It is recognized by the company that the compensation provided is a modest stipend, to help cover expenses, and that applicants should be advised to sincerely consider their finances for the coming year before applying for this opportunity. This is a full-time commitment and the candidate will have limited capactiy to obtain part-time employment in addition to their Gamut responsibilities. However, Gamut does provide additional opportunities to make extra money at Gamut Theatre, including but not limited to: working onstage and/or backstage in mainstage productions, bartending, house managing rental engagements, and end of day managment duties. MAIN JOB RESPONSIBILITES Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Core Company Actor: You will be expected to audition for all three mainstage production. Mainstage shows include the Fall Signature Play, the Spring Showcase Play, and Free Shakespeare in the Park (outdoor show). You will be expected to act in most, if not all, of the four Popcorn Hat Players productions during the season. This inculdes two touring productions. You will act in the Educational Engagement Production, which is an abridged version of a Shakespearean play. This includes touring and in-house mainstage versions of the show. Gamut tours are local, usually within a one-hour radius of Gamut Theatre. There are sometimes other acting opportunitites during the season through Gamut's Stage Door Series, TMI Improv troupe, and various independent projects. Teacher: All Core Company actors are expected to teach a theatre class and assit with one or more other theatre classes. Gamut Theatre has a wonderfully well-rouned Theatre Academy that opeates on a yearly schedule of Fall and Spring Semesters, plus Summer Camp. There are multiple levels within our program and you would be eligible to teach any level. Management Assistance: In addition to acting and teaching, you will assist various areas of administration and building maintenance at Gamut Theatre. All Core Company members at Gamut divide responsibilites for the smooth running and operation of the theatre. Your first 3 weeks at Gamut are an overlap with the outgoing and the incoming Core Company so that you can shadow and learn the job through hands-on training. CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS An ideal candidate for this position will: 1. Have a love and appreciation for classic stories and believe in the mission and vision of Gamut Theatre Group. 2. Behave and dress in a professional manner, work well in an ensemble environment, and be respectul and mindful of colleagues. 3. Be flexible and open to new ideas and changing schedules. Be a self-starter. Be a great Leader-in-Training by first learning how to follow effectively. 4. Enjoy working/interacting with students and patrons of all socio and economic backgrounds. 5. Have experience in a working office. 6. Possess great customer service skills, including a bright and vibrant personality when communicating with the public on the phone and in person. 7. Have good writing skills and compose intelligent email correspondence. 8. Have a professional and clean appearance when interacting with the public and be able to communicate clearly in person, on the phone, and in written form. 9. Be committed at all times to the success of the theatre and her part in facilitating that success. 10. Although it is not required, it is preferred that the candidate has some background in education and/or experience working with students. REQUIREMENTS: 1. Perform an audition and submit an acting resume and headshot for Gamut Leadership before being considered for the Core Company Actor/Teacher Intern position. The audition will consist of two contrasting monologues. One must be classical in nature. 2. Perform all responsibilites commonly related to the job position of Actor: being on time, attending rehearsal, writing blocking, memorizing lines, performing in shows, working with an enemble, being respectful and mindful of colleagues. 3. Be flexible and open to different directing styles and management styles. 4. Have a valid driver's license. 5. Applicant needs to reside within commuting distance to Harrisburg, PA. No housing is provided. 6. Obtain all education clearances required for working with minors. Instructions provided by company.
