Aerospace Engineering Intern, Machine Learning Applications Omitron, Inc. - Greenbelt, MD 3 hours agoPart-timeEstimated: $46,000 - $58,000 a year Apply Now Skills * Software Development Title: Aerospace Engineering Intern, Machine Learning Applications Job ID#: 293 Job Overview: Omitron is seeking an intern to help investigate and implement machine learning techniques in support of spacecraft operations at NASAs Flight Dynamics Facility (FDF). This facility provides operations support to 30+ on-orbit satellites, as well as the human spaceflight mission, which is currently comprised of cargo missions such as Cygnus, SpaceX Dragon, HTV, and Soyuz and commercial crew missions Dragon 2 and Starliner. Additionally, the FDF is involved in mission planning and testing for the James Webb Space Telescope and Orion missions to the moon and beyond. Opportunities: This is an exciting opportunity for anyone interested in pursuing a career in Aerospace Engineering, specifically Space Flight Dynamics, or machine learning! You will help the FDF evaluate machine learning tools and techniques tools to improve current processes used for evaluating spacecraft tracking data. You will help determine the plan to implement machine learning tools and techniques which will be used to support all future FDF missions. You will gain experience interacting in the fast-paced world of satellite operations. You will have the opportunity to observe launch & orbit operations of a crew or cargo vehicle bound for the International Space Station (ISS). You will be provided with the opportunity to gain experience in astrodynamics tools such as STK and FreeFlyer. Qualifications: The ideal candidate is currently pursuing a degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or Computer Science and possesses the following skills: Experience in machine learning tools, techniques, or applications Experience in programming or software development Background or coursework in orbital mechanics Interest in contributing to NASAs goal of sending people to the moon and beyond Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills US citizenship required / EEO/AA / E-Verify Participation Job Location: NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt, MD; the candidate is expected to provide their own transportation to and from work each day Schedule: 40 hours per week through the summer. Highly successful interns may have the potential to continue working for Omitron part-time during the school year.
