Exhibitions Intern Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden - Claremont, CA 4 hours agoTemporary Apply Now Education * Bachelor's Degree Position Overview As a living museum that celebrates the value, beauty and importance of California native plants, Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden produces exhibitions to foster connection between visitors and the superlative flora that makes California unique. Exhibitions at their 86-acre public garden take the form of art gallery shows, outdoor displays and garden-wide installations. Multimedia in nature, these exhibitions synthesize diverse art forms, materials as well as living plant and animal species to provide new experiences and perspectives on the role of California flora in our lives. The Exhibitions Intern will assist with exhibit design, interpretation and administration throughout the exhibition process for several ongoing and upcoming shows. During the internship, the intern will gain valuable insights and experiences along each step of an exhibition's lifespan - from conceptualization to evaluation. Duties and Responsibilities * The Exhibitions Intern will work closely on "Kinship: The Landscapes of Family," an art exhibition featuring California landscape paintings by a group of related plein air artists whose work spans generations and geographies. For this Art Gallery exhibit, the intern will assist with curatorial review, aid in the development of an interpretive framework and provide administrative support. * For the outdoor exhibit "Discovery Garden," the Exhibitions Intern will assist with ongoing interpretation, design and logistical support for this show focused on the Gardens research department and graduate education program. This involves creating signage, sourcing photographic content and maintaining the aesthetic of the exhibit. * The Exhibitions Intern will be involved in the production of the California Butterfly Pavilion, aiding in the development and design of the visitor experience for this educational installation that highlights California native butterfly species and the plants they depend on. Eligibility Students must: * Be of a group underrepresented in museums and visual arts organizations, including, but not limited to, individuals of African American, Asian, Latino/Hispanic, Native American, or Pacific Islander descent; * Be currently enrolled undergraduates. Students must have complete at least one semester or two quarters of college by June 2019. Students graduating in May or June 2019 are also eligible. (Students who are enrolled in a second BA or BS program are not eligible.) * Reside or attend college in Los Angeles County; and * Be a United States citizen or permanent resident. Terms The internship is a full-time (40 hours/week) position with a rate of $14.25 hour, for a consecutive ten-week work period between June 2019 and August, 2019.
