This job brought to you by America's Job Exchange Type: Full Time Location : Birmingham, Alabama Job Description: The following will be expected during a summer internship in our Birmingham, Alabama office. The right candidate will find themselves experiencing work in survey and civil design including: * Learning the operation of survey equipment * Placing marks, stakes, pins, monuments and becoming familiar with commonly used surveying terms. * Driving stakes to fix survey points and determining location data to be placed on stakes. * Working on preliminary, conceptual and detailed design as it relates to transportation related projects * Utilizing software such as Microstation, Autocad etc. * Performing standardized or prescribed assignments involving a sequence of related operations. * Arranging data as it pertains to surveying * Performing routine analysis to check applicability, accuracy and reasonableness of data. * Compiling notes, sketches, and records of data obtained and work performed and keeps same in a field book. * Participating in basic layout and field engineering activities. Candidate Specification: The following will be required for participation in a summer internship: * Must be pursuing a four year degree in civil engineering or related field * Experience in engineering related internships preferred * Interests in surveying and transportation * Ability to organize thoughts clearly and communicate effectively * Experience with Microstation, Autocad and previous surveying knowledge preferred Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
