Intern (Operations) Salary $12.00 - $17.00 Hourly Location Any IEUA wastewater facility, CA Job Type Part-Time Temporary Department Operations and Maintenance Job Number 002 18 19 20000133 Closing 6/30/2019 5:00 PM Pacific The Position Continuous Posting This is a continuous recruitment for the 18/19 fiscal year period (July 1, 2018 - June 30, 2019). FLSA: Non-Exempt Internships are limited to 25 hours week and 960 hours per fiscal year (July 1st to June 30th) Note: Internship are not meant to be short term, for example, limited to summer, winter and/or spring breaks. Individuals interested in short term internships will not be considered. Hours: Minimum of 20 hours each week, minimum of a 4 hour shift. Available workdays and times include Monday Sunday from 6:00 am to 4:00 PM. Incumbents will receive training in a variety of duties in the operation and maintenance of the Agency's wastewater treatment facilities and equipment. The internship is designed to assist individuals in obtaining hours that are mandated by the California State Water Resources Control Board Wastewater Treatment. Click here for an overview of the . Intern staff work flexible hours as established by his/her respective supervisor. While the Agency is flexible and will strive to work around an intern's schedule, an intern's work hours will vary and be mutually agreeable between the intern and his/her supervisor. Examples of Essential Functions May include, but are not limited to the following: Receives on the job training in the operation of a wastewater/water treatment plant and distribution System. May assist in reading meters and gages to determine efficient equipment operation; records readings. May receive training in water quality testing, amounts of chemicals for safe usage, laboratory opera�tions, the proper use of test equipment, and the methods and techniques used in maintaining facilities and equipment. Cleans tanks and other equipment; maintains facilities and grounds in a clean, safe and orderly condition. May assist in the maintenance of a variety of records, logs and reports. May operate a vehicle to travel to various Agency facilities. May perform minor routine maintenance tasks and repairs. Perform other related duties as required. Qualification Guidelines EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: Graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent. Graduation or current enrollment in undergraduate or graduate studies in an accredited college or university with major course work in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Sciences, wastewater/water treatment technology or closely related field. LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES: A valid California driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the Agency's vehicle insurance program is required. A California State Water Resources Control Board Wastewater Treatment, Water Treatment, Water Distribution Certification or the ability to obtain an Operator in Training Certification. KNOWLEDGE OF : Principles of Wastewater /Water treatment and distribution processes, equipment, regulations and safety procedures; modern office equipment including a computer and applicable software. ABILITY TO : Learn how to operate a variety of process control equipment; motorized industrial equipment, accurately read meters, gauges, and schematic drawings; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; understand and follow verbal and written instructions; formulate options and make recommendations; establish and maintain effective working relationships.
