Nurse Intern - CCH Acute San Luis Valley Health is seeking a full time, temporary Student Nurse Intern. Student Nurse Interns will work under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse to provide direct nursing care to assigned patients. The intention of this temporary job is to promote candidates who are interested in committing to a long term job as an RN. Qualified candidates will possess the following education and skills: * Must be enrolled in a Bachelor of Science Nursing Program in their senior year or in an Associate's Degree Nursing Program at a senior level (graduating within six months of nurse interning). * Must hold a 3.5 grade point average or higher throughout nursing school. * Must have current Basic Life Support Certification. * Previous experience as a Certified Nurse Aide or EMT- Basic preferred. * Must be willing to commit to nursing unit of internship for two years post graduation and receiving licensure. Responsibilities: * Assisting, planning, implementing and evaluating the delivery of care to accepted nursing and hospital standards of care relevant to acute care nursing under the direct supervision of a registered nurse preceptor. * Use nursing processes to work in collaboration with the healthcare team, implementing and documenting individualized nursing plans of care incorporating age specific considerations, including discharge planning and patient/family teaching. * Administer medication, including IV medication, via the Seven Rights; document and communicate clinical findings. * Starts intravenous lines as directed by RN. * Assist with special tests and procedures, ensure proper consent has been obtained. * Assist with or institute emergency measures for sudden, adverse developments in patients. * Maintain a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with Hospitals standards. * Assist to maintain, support, and implement department and Hospital's mission and goals. * Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings and workshops. * Understands the scope of certified nurse aides and ward clerks and the scope of a nurse intern related to delegation. * Documents nursing care in electronic medical record. * Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned and required.
