Company : BCFS Health and Human Services Status : Part Time (20 25 hours weekly) Pay Grade : Un-paid Education : Master level student in Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, or Social work. Must be able to commit to at least two consecutive semesters. Experience : Required- two (2) years experience providing any type of direct services to youth and families. Bilingual preferred. Supervises : None Summary: The Counselor Intern is responsible for using sound professional judgement and best practices to ensure quality services are provided to the service population especially in crisis situations while maintaining compliance with established state and federal standards. To successfully perform this job, the employee may be expected to perform the following, with or without reasonable accommodations in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990: Essential Functions: * Provide individual and family sessions; using Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Strengthening Families Program. * Conduct initial intakes, coordinate referrals, provide treatment plan, and documentation of services for assigned caseload. * Assess clients needs and provide assistance with emotional support and advocacy. * Link clients to available resources and provide case management support, as needed. * Provide psychoeducational groups focused on emotional support, anger management, healthy relationships, managing trauma, self-care, stress management, substance abuse, risky behaviors and other alternatives forms of recovery, as needed. * Able to connect with youth and at-risk families. * Provide assessment-based crisis intervention services to individuals on-site and over the phone. * Report any suspected abuse or neglect to the program supervisor and all appropriate state and county enforcement agencies. * Attend and participate in staff meetings and in-service trainings. * Participate in weekly face to face or phone supervision with the supervisor. * Some travel from office to offsite partnering agencies (school campuses etc.) * At times, travel to partnering organization to provide services or outreach. * Meet all deadlines required by program supervisor and state/federal partners. Measurable Deliverables: * Compile and analyze intakes and referral information to make an assessment of client needs. * Offer individual and group support as appropriate. * Teach peer support skills in conflict resolution, anger management, parenting, etc., as needed. * Develop, monitor and review with client(s) a treatment/action plan designed to increase strengths, address needs, and reduce conflict in the home. * Complete all files and program documentation, including data entry, accurately and on time. * Help individuals to locate community resources to meet additional needs * Prepare presentations, trainings and facilitate groups that address topics related to child abuse prevention for community agencies, school, parents and youth. * Participate in resource fairs in the community as assigned. * Compile, prepare, submit and maintain accurate records, files, forms and additional information in accordance with agency policies, licensing and/or contract requirements. * Work evenings, weekends and holidays as needed or requested by position supervisor. * Implement BCFS safety protocols including evacuating with children and other staff in case of an emergency. * Maintain confidentiality in all areas of the service population and program operations. * Maintain BCFS HHS professional and ethical standards of conduct outlined in the BCFS employee handbook including demonstrating respect for agency staff, the service population, and community members and complying with the required dress code at all times. Credentials, Skills and Abilities: * Pass a pre-employment drug screen and random drug screens and maintain emotional control and professional composure at all times. * Pass a pre-employment and biennial criminal background and motor vehicle check (fingerprints needed if applicant has lived out of state within the past 5 years) * Maintain liability insurance throughout their practicum/ internship experience (s). * Students are expected to be enrolled in a graduate-level practicum/internship course throughout the duration of their practicum experience(s). * Demonstrate the ability to: * Respond sensitively and competently to the service populations cultural and socio-economic characteristics. * Communicate effectively in writing and verbally in English and Spanish. * Work in a fast paced environment. * Maintain computer literacy required to meet the responsibilities of the position. * Work effectively and without intensive supervision both independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team. * Travel as needed. * Manage time effectively and efficiently.
