Date Posted May 16, 2019 Industry Digital Media Specialty Editorial Job Status Part-time Salary Not Specified Website https://www.planning.org/ Description: General Position Description The editorial intern is a paid, part-time position with Planning magazine, the flagship publication of the American Planning Association?a nonprofit organization with more than 38,000 members and a mission of creating great communities for all. This position requires a time commitment of 10-15 hours a week for a period of four to six months at an hourly rate of $16. Duties and responsibilities Learn about and contribute to the publication of a monthly print magazine?as well as other APA publications. Youll be helping the editors with some administrative tasks?tracking story proposals, sending copyright forms, etc.?as well as editorial work, including fact-checking stories, proofreading layouts, and writing. Youll be involved with larger research projects. Youll also participate in editorial meetings and brainstorming sessions that help decide the direction of editorial content. Our goal is to not only teach skills but also provide opportunities to work on real projects and gain magazine and publishing experience. Qualifications (Education and Experience) * Commitment to accuracy and detail is a must. * Enthusiasm to work on real projects and gain magazine publishing experience necessary. * College student or recent graduate with background in media and journalism preferred. Knowledge of, or interest in, urban planning a plus. Planning students or recent graduates interested in pursuing careers in media and publishing are also encouraged to apply. * Must have excellent professional writing skills. * Willingness to explore a wide range of planning-related topics required. * Proficiency with PC computers, Microsoft Office required.
