Intern- Engineering Company Welbilt Location US-LA-Shreveport Job Type Skilled Labor - Trades Begin Date 5/16/2019 End Date 6/15/2019 Base Pay N/A Employment Type Full-Time Manages Others False Relocation Covered False Job Description Frymasteris partnering with McKinsey & Company, a leading global managementconsultancy, to embark on a vanguard lean and digital manufacturing transformation.The Frymaster Summer Internship Program is designed to expose high potentialindividuals to all phases of a complex and ambitious program to re-designmanufacturing systems and processes and will take place in the company'sShreveport, LA* facility. * Gain first-hand experience and take part in a full upgrade ofmanufacturing processes from mostly manual, minimally automated, and low datamaturity environment to a best in class system. This will include criticalprojects such as implementation of a new, full ERP software. * Work on challenging, complex problems in a no-playbookenvironment: interns will be offered a unique opportunity to own a discreteworkstream from ideation to execution. Any transformation requires employees tofind creative solutions to old problems. Interns will be encouraged to pitchideas and projects that attend to the problems they identify. * Work with cutting edge hardware and software technology:manufacturing is undergoing a systemic change from primacy of high labor, repetitiveprocesses to a tech-enabled, "smart" paradigm. We are bringing the factory ofthe future to Frymaster. This ambition is rare in medium-sized, domesticmanufacturers. Theentire intern cohort will be working on different axis of the transformation.Interns will be working alongside Frymaster employees on real projects thatwill have a direct impact on the business. Interns will furthermore receivesupport from McKinsey consultants and sector experts, learning best in classmanagement techniques and processes. They will learn how to balance operationalexecution with strategic thinking and gain uniquely valuable experience in a fast-paceddigital manufacturing transformation. Frymasteris committed to the professional development of students selected in theprogram. Each intern will be assigned a day-to-day supervisor as well as anexecutive sponsor to check-in weekly on development and overall satisfaction.Special emphasis will be put on overall experience for the entire cohort: townhallwith senior Frymaster management, presentation of workstreams to the entireintern group to share successes and lessons learned, lunchtime professionaldevelopment sessions, company-sponsored team events, etc. Internship structureand responsibilities: Theentire summer intern cohort will be under the overall responsibility ofOperational Excellence (OpEx). While the OpEx Department has overall responsibilityfor progress and leadership of the transformation, initiatives are split indifferent working teams that involve stakeholders from specific departments. Wewill allocate interns to teams working on specific topics based on experience,academic background, and professional goals/interest. Teams: 1. Engineering Design: upgrademanufacturing design processes and work on new 30lb. fryer modular platform.Work alongside McKinsey design specialists on crafting an intelligent nextgeneration fryer. 2. Production Schedulingand Material Management: enable pre-kitting of all production by revamping materialsmanagement and parts delivery processes: conduct inventory analysis todetermine optimal storage strategy ("min-max"), work with all stakeholders todetermine new space and layout for parts supermarket, and assist materialhandling group with layout changes. Conduct market analysis for automatizedstorage solution and pick by light parts delivery, interview vendors, andassist in selection of new solution. 3. Digitization ofProduction: implement digital performance management software (DigitalFactory) and complete ERP system. Design back end architecture, data collectionmechanism, and front-end user interface. Short term objective and scope ofinternship is of basic machine connectivity and data visibility for entireplant, as well as integration with Visual Factory (workforce productivitytracking and kitting process). 4. Quality management: conduct improvementof existing processes with a special focus on calibration, non-conforming,incoming inspection, manage inline testing and verification, review test hoodprocess and identify of new methods of examining finished goods, create lineaudit process and schedule, research warranty costs drivers and propose plan tomitigate. 5. Strategic processimprovement: each intern will beassigned one production line to audit and manage for the entire duration ofengagement. Manage robust and comprehensive operational diagnostic (cycle timeanalysis, time studies, spaghetti charts, interviews) and work with OpEx departmentto determine a new layout. Interns will also learn to schedule production on adaily basis and use pace-boards to manage production. 6. Project Management: overallco-ordination and reporting of transformation. Collaborate with McKinseyconsultants to manage all initiatives using proprietary project managementprocesses and software. Job Requirements: Mustbe currently enrolled and pursuing a degree in Electrical/Computer/Software/Mechanical engineering (special exception can be granted for Group E or F whereother degrees will be considered) at an accredited school. Must have completedSophomore year coursework to be eligible. Studentswith all sorts of experience are encouraged to apply. Musthave valid US work authorization. Experiencein manufacturing environment is preferred but not required, although ademonstrable interest in industrial processes will be evaluated during theinterview process. Valuableexperience differs for each working group: * Group A: electrical wiring in SolidWorks, PCB design, softwaredevelopment, LabView, Microsoft Office, scripting languages (shell, python,perl), lab measurement equipment (e.g. DMM, oscilloscope, etc.), C/C++, IoTconcepts * Group B: any shop floor processes and layout changes, familiaritywith inventory management optimization * Group C: Visual Factory or similar system, software development,computer programming experience (scripting languages), systems integration,data analysis, vendor evaluation and selection, setup of ERP system * Group D-E: Industrial engineering work in similar situation(high complexity, low volume, high labor), coursework in process optimization WorkingConditions: Internswill mostly work in normal office environments with extended periods of sittingand standing; but must be able to engage with processes on shop floor. Must be able to wear all required PersonalProtective Equipment (PPE).
