IRC teams provide health, infrastructure, learning and economic support to people in 40 countries worldwide. The IRC also provides support to thousands of refugees resettling in 24 U.S. cities each year through initial housing assistance; case management and referral services; job readiness and placement; community and cultural orientation; health and wellness programs; immigration services; and youth programs. SCOPE OF WORK: The Immigration Intern/Volunteer will work with IRC Immigration Caseworker and Immigration Coordination VISTA to prepare, review, submit and follow to completion immigration applications. Interns/Volunteers will work within the Immigration Department to learn about government policy, immigration law and public service. They will assist IRC clients and the broader immigrant community in obtaining green cards, becoming citizens, reuniting with family members, and obtaining other immigration benefits. They will help with the administration of the department. Interns/Volunteers will interact with clients and be exposed to a broad spectrum of cultures, languages and stories. ESSENTIAL ROLES: Assist Department of Justice (DOJ) Accredited Representative in providing low-cost immigration services to Wichita and its surrounding communities.Build awareness of the immigration services offered by the International Rescue Committee - Wichita. RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist clients in completing intake forms;Assist clients in obtaining supporting documents; Prepare and proofread immigration documents for submission to the appropriate United States agency under the supervision of the DOJ Accredited Representative;Correspond with clients regarding their applications. Utilize email, text and personal contact for follow-up and outreach;Organize and file documents, print and copy forms and supporting documents;Monitor client applications as they move through system;Interact with government websites and other resources, researching instructions and regulations;Assist in outreach and advertising of immigration services to Wichita community;Help record client interactions; andAssist with additional related activities as needed. Qualifications * Commit to one or more four hour shifts a week during normal business hours; * Demonstrate reliability and dedication; * Be detail oriented and able to fill out forms appropriately; * Competence in using a computer for variety of purposes; familiarity with Word and Excel; * Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds; * Willingness to learn about a complex subject matter; IRC leading the way from harm to home.
