Structural Engineering Intern SUMMIT Engineering, Laboratory & Testing P.C. - Raleigh, NC 27603 Part-time, Internship Job purpose The purpose of this position is to provide various duties in the field and office setting to support the structural engineering department. Duties and responsibilities Performs the following: o Responsible for preparing AutoCAD drawings o Responsible for preparing general reports o Performs Basic Structural Analysis Calculation both by hand and software o Performs Structural Inspections (Framing, Special Inspections, General) o Responsible for updating structural department administrative activities o Performs general tasks as assigned by the department manager or perspective project managers Qualifications Education: o Required: Currently pursuing a 4 year civil engineering degree from an accredited university. AutoCAD experience. Engineering Intern certification or ability to obtain within a year. Skills: o Ability to read and interpret construction documents o Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public. o Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions o Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business memos and proposals. o Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. o Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, AutoCAD, and various engineering programs Professional Certifications: o Preferred: Engineering Intern (EI) License o Preferred knowledge of International Building and Residential Codes, ACI, ASCE-07 Experience o Prior experience in structural engineering preferred. Physical requirements These physical demands are representative of what a Structural Intern may encounter in the field and are essential functions of this position. You will be involved primarily with field work on outside construction sites involving long term standing. You must have the ability to use your hands to handle, finger or feel; reach, climb or balance; crouch, stoop, crawl, kneel and sit. You will have the ability to see and smell; including close, distance and peripheral vision, depth vision and ability to focus. Must have the ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs. This position includes travel to project sites; SUMMIT will provide a company vehicle to aid in your travel. Supervision/Direct Reports None Notes: SUMMIT may provide transportation for jobsite work. Drivers license verification is required and you must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with SUMMIT ECS, Inc. driving policy. SUMMIT is a drug-free workplace. Pre-employment drug screening is required; random and post-accident drug screening is also undertaken.
