This internship offers the unique opportunity to work with advanced agricultural technologies in an operational setting. Interns will have the opportunity to strengthen and learn new skills related to field data collection, crop water management, orchard operations, data management and statistical analysis at one of the largest tree-crop farming companies in the world. Position Description: The position requires a full-time commitment during the summer of 2019. The Data-Driven Agriculture intern will be expected to maintain field data, work with farming operations teams, and execute statistical & imagery analyses. The intern will also gain experience working in a large agricultural company and interacting with project stakeholders. This position requires self-motivation, resourcefulness, self-reliance, and the ability to organize and prioritize requests from multiple project members. The candidate will be expected to manage their time effectively, meet hard and soft deadlines, and is encouraged to bring creativity and ingenuity to the project. Work environment/conditions * Occasionally the employment commitment may require work or travel on weekends and outside normal business hours to collect or analyze data. * Field work requires use of an ATV and some farm machinery (training provided) and dexterity in handling moderately heavy (50 lbs.) pieces of equipment while on foot in the orchards. * Orchard conditions are extreme, with summer temperatures regularly exceeding 100 F�. * Possession of a valid driver's license and safe driving record is required. * Candidates must have a reliable form of personal transportation due to the rural location, however a company vehicle will be available during business hours for inter-company travel. Requirements: Preferred qualifications: Enrolled in accredited graduate or undergraduate degree program with studies focused in precision agriculture, horticulture, agronomy, soil science, computer science, geography/GIS, plant biology, Ag engineering or related field. * Experience agricultural field trials and/or operations strongly preferred * Coursework or experience with multispectral or hyperspectral imagery analysis preferred * Computer proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) * Strong communication, research and presentation skills * Experience with statistical analysis in MATLAB/Python/R, data management and SQL a plus Wonderful Orchards is an Equal Opportunity Employer and with opportunities for advancement.
