Job Title Robotics Intern Alternate Locations 2942 S Victory View Wy, Boise, Idaho 83709 Full-time/Part-time Intern Job Decription Join Bastian Solutions' Ramp;D Robotics team in Boise, ID and be a part of the development of several Robotics solutions for the Material Handling industry from the ground up. We are looking for a Robotics Engineer Intern to join our exciting Ramp;D team. New challenges will be presented daily which requires a diverse knowledge in many different disciplines - requiring the team to be fast moving and continuously growing. The Robotics Engineer Intern will assist in developing new technologies and functional prototypes for Bastian Solutions. Timeframes for prototypes will be project managed, development will need to be functionally and aesthetically pleasing as we plan to demonstrate these new technologies to our customers. Projects will be confidential through the pilot phase as not to impact our current relationships with partner manufacturers. This position works directly with the Ramp;D Manager and various manufacturing business units (internal and external). General Duties: * Participate in design and requirements reviews * Contribute to development of functional specification documents * Assist in setup and maintenance of design of software plugins and architecture * Testing: ensuring all development functions to specification * Integration: plugins, scripts, drivers and interfaces integrate seamlessly with the entire system * Partake in code reviews, updating code where necessary * Refactor legacy code when appropriate to adhere to requirements and to increase maintainability * Performance analysis * Field trips as necessary to learn about technology and client needs * Collaborate with external partners to assist in the design or development of software systems. * Support other engineers in prototype development: controls, software, fabrication, etc. * Participate in corporate social and team building events * Participate in local community outreach events * Other duties as assigned Required Qualifications: * Student currently working towards a bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field. * Experience developing on robotic systems or other applicable automated machines * NICE TO HAVE with Computer Vision systems including, but not limited to, OpenCV, 3D Point-Clouds, LIDAR systems, etc. * Big Plus: Autonomous Navigation experience (SLAM, LIDAR, ROS Navigation Stack, etc.) * Experience using version control systems * If EE/ME Experience using SolidWorks or Autocad Electrical * If CS: Proficient in C/C++, C#, Python and other common development languages * Comfortable working in a lean Agile Team * Ability to analyze engineering problems and develop creative solutions. * Excellent organization and prioritization of daily tasks and projects. * Ability to multi-task while maintaining progress toward completing overall goal. * Ability to write thorough documentation for new software and processes. * Problem Solver * Experimenter Superior Performance Objectives: * ROS Development Experience a plus * Microcontroller Firmware Experience a plus * Real-Time Operating System (RTOS) a plus * Motor Control Algorithms * Understanding of basic electrical theory and circuit design * Working experience with Robotics Industry technologies (Microcontrollers, Motor Controllers, Lidar, Encoders, and various Sensors) About Us: Bastian Solutions, a Toyota Advanced Logistics company, is an independent material handling and robotics system integrator providing automated solutions for distribution, manufacturing, and order fulfillment centers around the world.
