Job Concepts Function of Work: To apply scholastic theory and elementary engineering skills to a variety of tasks involving standard procedures and practices in the field, office, or laboratory in order to acquire practical experience for licensure. Location of Work: May be used by all state agencies. Job Distinctions: Differs from Engineer Intern Applicant by possession of a Louisiana Engineer Intern certificate. Differs from Engineer Intern 2 by the elementary nature of assigned duties (measured by the complexity, duration, diversity, and budget of projects or programs). Differs from Engineering Technicians by responsibility for approving drawings, plans, construction estimates, and payment invoices as well as the ability to perform a broader range of engineering principles. Examples of Work Function Statement : Assists the Construction Coordinator by supervising a team of engineering technicians engaged in materials testing and field sampling. Is responsible for ensuring high quality testing and sampling in accordance with AASHTO, ASTM and LA DOTD testing procedures. Incumbent may be required to perform duties in extreme conditions(rain, heat or cold), to use a state vehicle for District-wide travel and lift up to 45 lbs. All training requirements must be met and maintained. The person filling this position must possess an Engineering License for practice in the State of Louisiana. While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Service laws, rules, and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals and directives. 35% Serves as an assistant to the Construction Coordinator through functional supervision of all Laboratory Operations and personnel. Provides daily supervision to set priorities for work assignments with emphasis toward work load and effective use of personnel. In charge of laboratory operations in the absence of the Construction Coordinator. Manages all aspects of the use of Site Manager Materials program in the lab. 20% Conducts 2059 reviews and submits to Construction Coordinator for review. Prepares final pay memos for asphalt as needed. 15% Administers the District's Radiation Safety Program, including performing inspections on equipment and storage locations; and tests and maintenance on the Districts's Nuclear Moisture/Density machines. Ensures that all laboratory equipment is maintained and calibrated as required. In charge of safety inspections on the building and equipment. Monitors PPE usage of employees in the laboratory. 10% Evaluates and resolves complex problems which develop in connection with testing, field operations or documentation requiring highly specialized skills and advanced technical knowledge. 5% Manages the maintenance and calibration requirements of the laboratory's testing equipment and maintains calibration records as part of the statewide Laboratory Accreditation program. 5% Samples, for source approval, all new aggregate sources in District 62. 5% Attends, studies and successfully completes training courses required and provided by the Department. 5% Additional duties as directed by the District Laboratory Engineer, such as, but not limited to emergency operations/disaster support activities.
