Through our internship program,VIA (Values Into Action), we invite you to be a part of this tradition of caring and action. VIA places college students in internships at nonprofits, and then brings them together as a group once a week for training and to process their experience through the lens of the values of The Sisters of Charity. The internship starts the first week of June and ends the first week of August.** Intern will be placed in community-based organizations working with a variety of immigrants. Many organizations are involved in policy development and program implementation to protect the basic civil rights granted by the American constitution and international law mandates. This summer will be a summer of encounters, learning, solidarity, humility, simplicity, and charity. Immigration Interns will be involved in program implementation and service delivery to refugees, asylees, and other immigrants in New Jersey. The intern will work closely with community-based organization staff to further the mission and vision of each organization. DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: * Fluency in one other language preferred, but not required. * Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with refugees, asylees, and other immigrants. * Ability to work well with a culturally diverse staff and clients * Prior experience in immigration is a plus, but not required SCHEDULE/LOCATION: Intern will work a TOTAL of 14 hours/week as follows: * 10 hours based in (whatever the location is), at placement site. THESE HOURS INCLUDE LOCAL TRAVEL THAT WILL REQUIRE ACCESS TO A RELIABLE CAR, AS LOCATIONS MIGHT NOT BE ACCESSIBLE BY PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION. * Days/hours will be determined between intern and placement supervisor. * 4 hours-THURSDAYS 10am-2pm in Convent Station, NJ. ATTENDANCE ON THURSDAY IS MANDATORY. NO CAR NEEDED. STIPEND: Interns receive a stipend of $1,000 for the summer. This is paid in two checks in July and August. Apply through Indeed.com.
