About the School Psychologist Intern Position: The School Psychology Intern will work directly with a licensed School Psychologist to gain knowledge and experience in the areas of assessment, counseling, crisis, behavior, Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), and Special Education. The ideal candidate for this position is someone who is highly organized, driven, and dedicated to working with diverse students and underserved communities. This intern will have frequent contact with the Director of Learning Support, Principals, Instructional Leaders, general and special education teachers, support staff, and other mental health staff in addition to their work with students. The intern will be provided a breadth and depth of opportunities to grow in their field with guidance from an experienced and passionate School Psychologist that serves grades ECE through 8th grade. This can be a part or full time position and will report directly to the School Psychologist. KIPP Colorado may provide an intern a unique opportunity to gain experience direct experience with MTSS, CBITS, and Affective Needs Centers. Key responsibilities (with the support of mentoring school psychologist) include, but are not limited to: * Assessment * Complete initial, reevaluation, and triennial cognitive, social emotional, and/or adaptive assessments to identify or confirm eligibility for special education services * Conduct Record Reviews, Observations, Interviews, and Formal Testing * Analyze and interpret assessment data to make data based decisions and recommendations to support access to instruction and reduce barriers to learning * Explain assessment results to parents, teachers, students, and other relevant individuals * Direct Services * Provide individual and group evidence based, developmentally appropriate mental health interventions and services to general education and special education students * Create, organize, and maintain case notes for students on caseload to document services * Collect progress monitoring data to evaluate intervention effectiveness * Address various crisis situations through conducting Suicide Risk Reviews, Self-Injury Assessments, Threat Assessments and providing other crisis counseling services * Provide in the moment behavior support using de-escalation techniques * Consult and collaborate with educational staff regarding students with emotional, behavioral, cognitive and learning difficulties, in accordance with all directives, standards, procedures, policies, laws, rules, regulations, codes and guidelines * Assist in the development of FBAs and BIPs for students and in the implementation of recommended courses of action * Consultation and Collaboration * Consult and collaborate with educational staff regarding students with emotional, behavioral, cognitive and learning difficulties, in accordance with all directives, standards, procedures, policies, laws, rules, regulations, codes and guidelines * Consult, collaborate, and assist with the implementation of school wide interventions and supports * Support and participate in Manifestation Determination Team meetings * Attend IEP meetings for students on caseload * Participate in MTSS meetings to support student achievement and address behavioral, mental health, and learning challenges * Develop and strengthen school and home connections through phone contacts and home visits with families * Other Duties * Understand current issues, laws and regulations regarding psychological services, special education, special education trends, and other issues related to children with special education needs * Maintain accurate records and other required data, prepare and submit reports in a timely manner * Maintain strict student and parent confidentiality * Perform other related duties, as assigned Skills and Qualifications * Unquestioned integrity and commitment to KIPP Colorados mission and values, including a strong commitment to the belief that all children can learn and deserve access to an excellent public education * Completion of coursework and supervised practicum experiences in the applied skills of assessment (intellectual, social emotional, and functional behavioral assessment), consultation (including behavioral consultation and academic and behavior planning) and therapeutic intervention (individual and group counseling, psychoeducational interventions, and applied behavior analysis) * Completion of a minimum of 60 graduate semester hours or 90 graduate quarter hours of coursework in the disciplines of education and psychology * Completion of a minimum of 500 Practica hours in a school setting supervised by a licensed school psychologist * Special Service Provider Intern Authorization from the CDE licensing department or Temporary Educator Eligibility Authorization (TEE) or Emergency Authorization * https://www.cde.state.co.us/cdeprof/checklist-initialspecialserviceintern * http://www.cde.state.co.us/cdeprof/checklist-initialtempspecialedspecialservices * Ability to exercise excellent judgment in decision-making * Adept at thinking strategically, translating plans into action, and exhibiting excellent judgment * Excellent writing, speaking, and presenting skills, and a keen attention to detail * Naturally and readily assumes responsibility to fix problems and create improvements * Ability to quickly and effectively build relationships with, motivate, and engage a diverse group of stakeholders * Ability to selfdirect and prioritize among competing goals and exhibit flexibility in a fastpaced, entrepreneurial environment * Skilled at analyzing, interpreting, and using data to collaborate, identify best practices and areas for improvement, and drive results This is an unpaidinternship position with the possibility of employment after successful completion of internship and graduate program.
