JOB SUMMARY The position exists to execute process improvement tasks and projects to reduce unscheduled downtime, increase life of assets, and enhance processes to improve safety, quality, and plant performance. The intern works under the direction of an Engineer or Supervisor to understand and align business operations and continuous improvement efforts as he/she executes their role to exceed customer expectations and align with GPI business, cultural, financial and operational objectives JOB FUNCTIONS: Job functions include, but are not limited to the following. * Work within and adhere to GPI's core values of Integrity, Respect, Accountability, Relationships and Teamwork. * Support the facility engineering projects to meet business commitments and improve plant quality, safety, and performances * Develop RFP's, bids, and recommend vendors. Hire vendors. Manage construction and quality control of new projects. * Demonstrates organizational agility by being able to find solutions through teamwork. * Develop and maintain accurate and complete spending forecasts * Discuss and lay out project specifications. * Make detailed plans to accomplish goals. * Prepare budgets, bids, and contracts * Review and recommend contracts. * Develop cost estimates. * Draft proposals and reports for upper management. * Check technical accuracy of work. * Service internal customers by continuously improving production and maintenance processes which directly impacts safety, efficiencies, and material and labor cost * Complete root cause failure analysis and implement corrective actions to improve efficiencies * Identify and implement cost savings initiatives that reduce plant expenses * Implement and share best practices with other food service facilities. * Contribute to a safe work environment by identifying and implementing safety improvements. * Other duties as assigned. BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE / SKILLS: * Currently enrolled in Engineering Program and a member of Fresno State VIP Program EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE: * Currently enrolled in Engineering Program and a member of Fresno State VIP Program * Students must be a junior or senior majoring in civil, computer, electrical and mechanical engineering or construction management, industrial technology and computer science. * To be considered, students must meet all program eligibility requirements, including have a minimum of 2.5 GPA and must agree to participate in two, six-month, full-time internships with two different companies. SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS: * General schedule is an 8-hour M-F assignment, however, employee must be willing to work alternate schedules occasionally; that may include early mornings, nights, and/or weekends and be punctual while doing so. * Occasional overnight travel to include flying, driving, riding or by rail * Must be willing and able to work overtime. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: * Sitting or standing, depending on changing job assignment, for extended periods. * Awkward and/or repetitive movements. * Occasional Lifting up to 20 lbs. * Reading computer screen or other electronic devices. * Use of various hand and electrical tools and equipment. * Work in areas of fluctuating temperature.
