This objective of this internship is to provide the intern with opportunities for research, development, and standardization of cutting-edge V2X communications for improving the safety and driving experiences. This position also requires participation in and contribution to the research collaborations with universities and third parties to develop novel V2X communication protocols and algorithms. Objectives: This project will provide the intern with unique opportunities to: * Perform the research and development of vehicle-to-vehicle communication technology by: * Develop DSRC solution to transmit and receive information for connected vehicle applications * Execute large scale DSRC and LTE-V2X simulations; Improve the PHY and MAC layer modeling of the simulator * Participate in and contribute to DSRC standard development in SAE and ETSI * Prepare and report results * Perform research of Next Generation VX communications by: * Survey latest communication technologies in IEEE and 3GPP * Propose, evaluate, and analyze enabling technologies for NGV communications * Participate in IEEE NGV meetings and contribute to NGV standardization as needed * Collaborate with universities for development of novel communication protocols using NGV * Prepare and report results to ITC-JP and TMC This internship will also provide opportunities to participate in creating international conference/journal papers and patents. Qualification: * Post Doc or currently pursuing PhD/Masters Electrical Engineering or Computer Science in the area of vehicular communication technologies * Research and development experience of wireless communications in vehicular environments * Strong knowledge of wireless communication at PHY and MAC layers such as radio propagation, modulation, channel coding and channel access mechanism * Solid understanding of standardized communication technologies such as IEEE 802.11p/DSRC, IEEE 802.11ad and LTE * Excellent coding skills with MATLAB and C++ * Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint * Ability to engage in general research activities such as defining problems and issues to be addressed, finding and using research data, and being able to make recommendations and findings in writing and presentations * Good planning, time management, decision-making and organizational skills, and ability to manage several tasks at once * Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills, including ability to respond professionally in all types of situations, maintain confidentiality and exercise tact and good judgment in an international work environment Administrative Details: * Full-time (through the end of March 2019) internship starting in the fall at Toyota ITC's Mountain View, CA office. * Applicants *must* already have the ability/authorization to work in the USA (Toyota ITC will NOT provide VISA support). * To apply for an intern position, please submit your application along with the following materials: * Resume/CV * Cover letter explaining your interest in the job and desired time frame for the internship (optional) About Us: Our mission is changing the experience of mobility, by providing expanded options built on innovative research and technology solutions.
