The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Office of Financial Services seeks a dedicated, highly motivated student to serve as a part-time Intern in the Finance Office. The selected student will process expenditure transactions and travel reimbursement vouchers in compliance with state and agency policies, laws and regulations. Additional duties include matching, verifying, batching, entering, reconciling and auditing invoices and vouchers and travel reimbursements. This position also processes revenue transactions as backup support and performs other administrative duties as needed. The agency is seeking an individual with excellent interpersonal skills exhibiting the ability to interact professionally with all levels of management and able to work collaboratively with management and agency staff focusing on customer service while maintaining compliance in a fast paced, multi-tasking environment. This is a great opportunity to gain some real world experience. This internship has a flexible schedule, although a standard schedule will be set. The office is located in Capitol Square, Downtown Richmond (on the bus route for GRTC & VCU Shuttle). This position is part-time with no benefits & is limited to working an average of 29 hours per week or less with a max of 1500 hours per year. Minimum Qualifications Knowledge of generally accepted accounting and auditing principles and practices. Working knowledge of office procedures and equipment. Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal and customer service skills. Computer skills to include accurate data entry and proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets and other financial software. Effective organizational and time management skills. Strong customer support with the ability to independently research and resolve problems in a timely manner; to follow instructions and policies; to maintain accurate files. Demonstrated ability to perform detailed work with numerical data, to make accurate calculations, and to prepare routine financial reports. Proficiency using MS Office including the ability to create & utilize complex spreadsheet applications. A current minimum GPA of 2.5 required Preferred Qualifications College-level degree program in Accounting, Finance or Business. Current/recent experience related to basic accounting that includes auditing/analyzing expenditure documents, travel reimbursement requests, revenue processing, or data entry into a financial systems data entry preferred. An equivalent combination of training and experience indicating possession of the preceding knowledge, skills and abilities may substitute for this education and experience. Special Requirements This position is paid by the hour & limited to working no more than 1500 hours. It does not include state benefits. Housing, transportation and living expenses are not included.
