Job Description The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), located at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Golden, Colorado, is the nation's primary laboratory for research, development and deployment of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies. NREL's Materials Physics Group has an opening for a full-time intern, focused on fabrication of III-V/Si hybrid photovoltaic devices. The appointment is for one year. . Basic Qualifications Must be enrolled as a full-time student in a degree granting program, or graduated in the past 12 months from an accredited institution. Internship period cannot exceed 12 months past graduation. Minimum of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average. Additional Qualifications NREL fabricates some of the highest efficiency silicon-based tandem solar cells by using III-V materials as top cells on silicon bottom cells (e.g., GaAs/Si). In our current program, we seek an intern to fabricate these mechanically-stacked tandem solar cells, focusing in particular on fabrication of devices for outdoor testing and stress testing. This project involves significant cleanroom fabrication, as well as working with internal and external collaborators who supply components for these cells. A successful applicant will have completed a Bachelors degree in Chemical Engineering or related field, and will have significant experience in fabrication and testing of solar cells, preferably high-efficiency multijunctions. We also expect excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as this project requires collaboration with a large, international team of researchers. Preferred Qualifications Job responsibilities will include fabrication of multiple III-V/Si tandem devices with excellent performance and reproducibility; thus, preferred qualifications include demonstrated success in this or a related project. .
