Accounting Intern Part-Time/Temporary City of Clovis, CA - Clovis, CA4.2 Part-time Performs a variety of accounting clerical duties involving financial record keeping and/or transactions including account receivables; responds to requests and inquiries; and performs related work as required. CLASS CHARACTERISTICS Under supervision performs support duties for the Accounting staff. Incumbents report to and take directions from the Accounting Supervisor. Incumbents receive thorough instructions when tasks are initially assigned and after training are expected to perform duties without constant supervision. Work is reviewed periodically upon completion and while in progress. Incumbents are expected to refer most variations in work to the supervisor for instructions. Examples of Duties: Posts data to various ledgers, registers, journals, and logs according to established account classifications and procedures; writes journal entries; gathers, tabulates, and proofreads statistical or financial data; accepts and/or verifies collections, receipts, and other financial data; performs a variety of general clerical duties including maintaining files and records; operates basic business equipment and a personal computer utilizing Microsoft products and the City's financial system; and performs related work as required. Typical Qualifications: LICENSE REQUIRED * Possession of a valid California Driver's License and a good driving record. EDUCATION * Business Administration student with an accounting option or in a closely related accounting field with a 3.00 GPA minimum from an accredited college or university; * Preferably a Junior standing or (completing last semester of Sophomore studies) from an accredited college or university; * Completion of Accounting 4A & 4B (or equivalent) from an accredited college or university; * Enrollment or completion of Intermediate Accounting 120A (or equivalent) from an accredited college or university. Knowledge of: * English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation; * Basic accounting and bookkeeping procedures; * Methods, practices, and terminology used in financial and statistical record keeping; * Modern office methods and procedures; * Filing systems and procedures; * Appropriate safety precautions and procedures. Ability to: * Perform accounting clerical work; * Process and maintain financial and statistical records; * Operate a computer and standard office equipment accurately and efficiently; * Understand and carry out oral and written instructions; * Communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing; * Write legibly; * Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the performance of assigned duties; * Operate a vehicle observing legal and defensive driving practices. Supplemental Information: PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS * Strength: Light work-lifting, carrying and/or pushing 25 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds; * Work is primarily sedentary.
