Grants and Writing Internship- Fall Big Brothers Big Sisters - Irving, TX4.4 Part-timeEstimated: $21,000 - $29,000 a year Education * High School Diploma or GED Skills * Excel Agency Description: Big Brothers Big Sisters Lone Star is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that exists for the purpose of placing caring adults in the lives of children in one-to-one mentoring relationships. Through the positive impact of those friendships, children with a Big Brother or Big Sister are more likely to graduate from high school and are less likely to begin using drugs, begin drinking alcohol or engage in negative conflict. Since 1927, our staff has worked carefully with both the volunteers and the children to ensure that the experience of Big Brothers Big Sisters is one that is dynamic, fulfilling, memorable and enjoyable for both the child and the volunteer. What We Are Looking For: Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Dallas is looking for an intern to assist our Grants and Foundation Relations Manager. This person needs to be a good writer and all majors are invited to apply. If you have any desire to gain experience working for a non-profit organization, this would be an ideal internship for you as you will gain a 360 degree perspective of the agency operation from programs to fundraising to management. The ideal candidate can take direction well and will be dedicated and hard-working with these interests, skills and abilities (regardless of their major): * Creative thinker who can craft positive, persuasive support arguments * Enjoys variety and able to multitask i.e. writing projects from more formal proposals to more light-hearted newsletter pieces to interviewing people for writing success stories, etc. * Able to conduct online research of foundations and grant opportunities Position Summary: This is a flexible, unpaid, part-time (approximately 15-20 hours a week) Grants and Writing internship position. The intern will report directly to the Grants and Foundation Relations Manager and will actively participate in development team efforts within the agency. Responsibilities include: * Writing persuasive support arguments for different projects; * Crafting documents like thank-you letters and cards; * Writing and editing short pieces for the newsletters; * Researching foundations and grant opportunities then writing summaries; * Conducting some interviews to gather information needed to write inspirational success stories; * Administrative support when needed i.e. making phone calls, sending emails, creating Excel spreadsheets, etc. * Perform other administrative duties for the Dallas office team as needed; * Maintain a professional social media presence on all persona accounts.
