OneMain Financial is looking for college students with a focus in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Information Technology, or other technically-related STEM fields interested in a Systems Administrator Internship with our Open Systems Infrastructure Operations Team. You will receive training to provide administration and support services, focusing on system virtualization, security, automation, and management. You will gain experience using products such as Microsoft and Linux Server Operating Systems, Microsoft Active Directory, PowerShell, VMWare, Python, Docker, and others. Open Systems Infrastructure is a part of OneMain's Data Center Infrastructure (DCI) department. As a SysAdmin Intern, you will be a member of the IT team responsible for all Intel-based infrastructure administration and support for both Data Center and Branch server and systems operations. We provide the administration of hardware (both physical and virtual) platforms, operating systems, senior levels of technical support, and configuration, installation, deployment, and monitoring of infrastructure applications. You will report directly to the Manager of Open Systems Operations. You will primarily work with other administrators and analysts in the DCI department, but will work with and support employees company-wide to ensure that Open Systems Infrastructure is providing the systems, support, and administration required to meet the diverse needs of the entire organization. Job Roles/Duties General * Learn and develop skills in Systems Administration, both in the Financial Services industry and at large * Assist Systems Administrators with current projects * Perform special projects as Project Lead * Gain hands-on practical experience to the full gamut of escalated Help Desk roles and responsibilities * Develop skills to communicate with business professionals at multiple levels across the organization * Assist in updating user and technical documentation Monitoring & Performance Management * Proactively monitor hardware platforms for potential performance and capacity concern. * Assist in the maintenance and performance tuning of applications running on all platforms, physical, virtual, and containers * Assist in performing preventative maintenance and upgrades on servers * Produce system status, reports, dashboards and key performance indicators that help identify potential issues * Develop and support scripts and tools used for orchestration and automation tasks * Communicate with key leadership and recommend changes or improvements Systems Support & Protection * Assist with the backup and recovery of data and information on all corporate servers/systems as needed * Provide back-end server support for Windows & Linux solutions, including standing up new servers/containers and maintaining existing infrastructure * Monitor, maintain, and resolve assigned Level 2/3 support tickets, documenting all activities performed in ticket resolution * Identify common and/or repetitive issues and document to allow for cross-training and improved support The right qualifications for success Ideal candidates for a OneMain Financial internship will have high energy and the drive to succeed, and will fit the following profile: * Local college sophomores, juniors and seniors in a STEM-related field * Energetic, organized, and skilled with todays technologies. Willing to research and learn new technologies * Highly self-motivated, directed with keen attention to detail * Highly developed interpersonal skills and the ability to work well in a team-based environment * Ability to dedicate, at minimum, 10-15 hours per week. (Schedule will be flexible based on student schedule and academic responsibilities related to current semester course load.) * Basic knowledge of Microsoft and/or Linux operating systems * Strong analytical and problem-solving skills * Ability to multi-task and support multiple priorities * Excellent written and oral communication skills Helpful Skills * Experience with Microsoft and Linux server operating systems * Experience troubleshooting, maintaining, and supporting systems within a networked environment * Working knowledge of GitLab and VMWare
