Job Information Jacobs JSEG Mechanical Technician Intern in Huntsville, Alabama JSEG Mechanical Technician Intern Description The Jacobs Space Exploration Group is searching for a Mechanical Technician Intern. This position is expected to last approximately 3 months. The selected candidate will provide general support to mechanical personnel to gain practical knowledge in a wide range of technical and engineering methods that support tests at the Component Development Area (CDA). Additional responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: * Assist technicians with set-up of equipment and fabrication simple parts * Assist technicians with fabrication and installation of tubing and electrical conduit * Interpret drawings, plans, and specifications * Utilize various tools and methods to perform work and maintenance on a variety of mechanical, fluid, and electrical systems * General cleanup and organization of parts The Jacobs Space Exploration Group (JSEG) offers a partnership in which you can grow personally and professionally within a framework of strong leadership, competitive compensation, and rewarding career paths. It is highly desired that candidate has relevant previous experience that proves mechanical aptitude. It is also desired that candidate is currently taking technical courses or already possesses a technical degree or certificate. Required: * Ability to communicate effectively with personnel in problem resolution, work coordination, and operation of systems * Ability to follow established procedures to safely assist in construction of systems to perform structural and fluid/propellant testing * Ability to work in a team environment under the supervision of experienced personnel * Safety conscious mindset * Good customer relationship skills * Must be able to provide own transportation Essential Functions Physical Requirements Requires standing for extended periods of time while working in a shop/lab environment supporting testing, equipment maintenance, and facility buildup and will necessitate wearing appropriate PPE including safety glasses, safety shoes, and hearing protection when required (85%). Requires sitting for short periods of time working at a computer and participating in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at MSFC facilities to discuss technical issues (10%). Limited lifting or work on ladder is required (5%). Work will be performed onsite at NASA/Marshall Space Flight Center (100%). Requires use of stairs or elevators to gain access to buildings. Work Environment Component Development Area (85%), general office environment (15%). Requires ability to interact effectively with co-workers, managers, and clients. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, and accurate communications, both verbally and in writing. Equipment and Machines Requires the ability to operate tools and equipment to support tasks at CDA (85%). Requires ability to operate a personal computer, telephone, task related software, and other general office equipment (15%). Attendance Normal workday is 6:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Thursday but may be adjusted to meet customer requirements or needs of employee. Regular attendance and punctuality are mandatory for meetings and other planned occasions. Other Essential Functions Ability to communicate effectively and work under supervision is essential (100%). Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others. Proof of U.S. Citizenship is required.
