Intern - Human Resources 53019 Salary See Position Description Location Sunrise, FL Job Type Intern Department Human Resources Job Number Intern - Human Resources Closing 6/30/2019 5:00 PM Eastern Description NATURE OF WORK The City of Sunrise is seeking a part time intern with a background in Public Administration and a strong interest in Human Resources Management. This is a professional internship within the Human Resources department primarily dealing with municipal functions, carrying out research projects and conducting independent studies. There will also be a great deal of hands-on experience with many other disciplines of the municipality. POSITION TYPE Part time, paid Internship or "for credit" Internship, period set for six (6) to twelve (12) months. Paid internship rate is $10 per hour. Examples of Duties ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS Administers assigned functions, such as recruitment, classification review, compensation studies, employment analysis, leave and benefits administration. Collects and analyzes data. Benchmark assessments. Track trends and developments in assigned functional areas. Conducts studies, performs research and prepares reports. Reviews, interprets and recommends policies. Participates in working groups. Ensures compliance with rules and regulations. Manages special projects. Develop and/or assist in the implementation of new programs or enhancements to existing programs, and in operations analysis and recommendations for organizational structure. Actively take part in the advancement and promotion of the City while supporting and meeting the needs of the customer, both internally and externally. Perform all work duties and activities in accordance with City policies and procedures. Perform other duties as assigned. Requirements SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS Must be currently enrolled on a full or part time basis at an accredited Florida college or university in a Bachelor's or Master's program, majoring in Human Resources or Public Administration or closely related field PROOF OF THE HIGHEST LEVEL OF COMPLETED EDUCATION MUST BE SUBMITTED AS AN ATTACHMENT WITH APPLICATION . Proficiency in Word, Excel required Must possess excellent research and communication skills LEARNING OUTCOMES Learn the daily business of operations in a Municipal Human Resources department Gain familiarity with the organizational structure and policies and procedures of the City of Sunrise Learn various aspects of employee benefit concepts, collective bargaining agreements, survey analysis and classification studies Reinforce Human Resource Management knowledge and gain a greater understanding of various related disciplines including Compensation, Recruitment, Employee/Labor Relations and Organizational Development Learn how to effectively communicate with various internal departments and external agencies Gain professional skills, including the ability to work collaboratively with others; professional conduct, government ethics and general operations of a transformational Human Resources Department Supplemental Information KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Some knowledge of principles and procedures relating to Human Resources and Public Administration. Some knowledge of theories, principles and procedures relating to position classification and job analysis. Some knowledge of regulations and procedures relating to disciplinary actions and grievances. Ability to interpret and explain Human Resources rules and regulations. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, employees, the public and staff members. Ability to exercise good judgment in evaluating qualifications of applications for positions. Ability to prepare complete narrative and statistical reports. Ability to communicate clearly, concisely and persuasively both orally and in writing. Ability to carry out complex oral and written instructions.
