Responsibilities Mortenson is currently seeking a Lean Innovation Intern with the ability to interact with a variety of staff at all levels in an ever-changing environment, remaining flexible, resourceful, proactive and efficient with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality. Excellent written and verbal communications skills are vital, with attention to detail equally important. The Lean Innovation Intern will assist in the implementation of Business Development goals and Lean Innovation techniques for our fast-growing Wind Energy Team. The Day-to-Day: A. Assist in developing a mathematical model to reduce cost and risk in crane walking Observe first-hand and understand the challenges and risks of crane walking Co-develop a CPT-based Geostatistical model to achieve a desired confidence level in subsurface conditions to support crane walking Assist in the implementation of a new engineered crane path and CPT testing protocol B. Leverage data and technology to identify opportunities to optimize construction activities Help determine the best opportunities to apply Machine Learning and advanced data and analytic strategies. Analyze video feed from crane/hook mounted cameras with Machine Learning Variability from VDC layout Material handling patterns (spaghetti chart) Crane-walking risks / equipment optimization Create a system that we can teach even after the initial 12 week internship to recognize hazards and inefficiencies in our work. Help inform best practices for leveraging systems to optimize our work (example: Geographic Information Systems C. Other duties as assigned, including: Assist team members in developing a long-term data management strategy and automating data entry and reporting for Operations and Business Development Travel to project locations to learn by doing, performing project or construction roles alongside experienced engineers and technicians. 25-50% travel to be expected, funded by Mortenson through direct billing and/or employee reimbursement Additional Information: You will join an exciting and ever-changing industry with a minimum 12-week internship with our team. This is a full-time (40hour/week) position through the summer 2019.
