Founded by two of Bostons most beloved vocalists the late Ruth Hamilton, music educator Elta Garrett and the Historic Charles Street A.M.E Church, Hamilton-Garrett Music and Arts is committed to the development of Boston's next generation of innovative artists through the celebration of music and preservation of arts in the African Diaspora . The Hamilton-Garrett Music & Arts Academy seeks to recruit a talented individual to join their team in the role of Summer Intern. Summer Intern Position Overview: (start date: July 2019) The Hamilton-Garrett Center for Music and Arts seeks to recruit an individual who will serve part-time (10-15 hours per week) in the position of Summer Internfor five weeks (beginning in July 2019). The ideal candidate should demonstrate the ability to work independently and as part of a team. The applicant should demonstrate having experience and/or appreciation of the arts. The Summer Intern will assist the Executive Director and staff with transitioning into our new building, preparing for the fall semester and supporting our social media accounts. The Summer Intern should expect to gain knowledge and experience in nonprofit administration, marketing and management. The Summer Intern is expected to have excellent verbal and written communication skills, demonstrate ability to prioritize and solve problems, ability to demonstrate responsibility and respect towards staff, students, families, donors and partners as a member of the Hamilton-Garrett Music and Arts team. The Summer Intern will report directly to the Executive Director and staff, assisting in administrative and creative needs that supports the centers programming to operate effectively such as but not limited to: * Oversees and executes all projects assigned by Executive Director * Serves as point of contact for internal and external individuals/business on behalf of the Executive Director * Attends meetings and assist with board meetings (such as staffing, coordinating food, copies, tech support, etc) * Checks and processes orders,mails,shipments sent to our program. * Manage and respond to all general inquiries communications (ex. Email, social media and phone calls) * Provide email correspondence on behalf of the Executive Director to internal and external businesses. * Provide email correspondence on behalf of the Executive Director to the Board of Directors for board meetings, minutes from meetings and other related items. * Assist with managing and posting to the Hamilton-Garrett Music and Arts social media accounts * Assist the Executive Director and staff with preparing/processing applications, auditions, and curriculum, just to name a few. * Assist in the program transitioning into our new building. Qualifications for the position include: * Must be 18 years or older * Prior work experience * Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills * Responsiveness, self-motivation, accuracy, attention to detail, and ability to manage and meet multiple deadlines * Experience in social media marketing and graphic design * Bilingual in English and other language (recommended but not required) Salary is commensurate with experience.
