Student Intern II-Paid/Fire & EMS (Temporary) Salary $9.76 Hourly Location TX 78205, TX Job Type 4C Temp Department Fire and EMS Job Number 2019-01175 Closing 6/21/2019 11:59 PM Central Job Summary Under general supervision, is assigned to a City Department to assist in general administrative and/or research functions for the purpose of developing a working knowledge of a targeted area in municipal government. Typically has completed some advance course work related to the internship program. Working conditions are primarily inside an office environment. Exercises no supervision. This position is an "unclassified" position and has no disciplinary appeal rights to the Municipal Civil Service Commission. This position is likewise subject to at-will employment status, and can be terminated at any time for any reason. Essential Job Functions Learns about area of career interest by observing and assisting professionals in the assigned department where work will be performed. May assist in the coordination, administration and/or monitoring of specific programs. May assist with conducting research, collecting and organizing data, performing analysis and preparing reports. May propose solutions to existing problems and discuss recommendations with administrative personnel. Assists with special projects as assigned. Job Requirements Graduation from high school or a General Education Development (GED) Certificate. Must be enrolled in U.S. Department of Education accredited undergraduate degree program. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Excellent organizational skills Excellent communication skills both written and verbal. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite. Experience with Mac OS. Valid driver's license. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university. Applicants selected for employment with the City of San Antonio in this position must receive satisfactory results from pre-employment drug testing and background checks. If required for the position, a physical, motor vehicle record evaluation, and additional background checks may be conducted. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Self-motivation and ability to work with minimal supervision. Knowledge of statistical analysis. Skill in operating a personal computer and utilizing rudimentary software. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing. Ability to create clear and concise reports. Ability to learn pertinent Federal, State, and local laws and ordinances. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City staff and the general public.
