Safety Management Council Intern American Trucking Associations - Arlington, VA 12 hours agoFull-timeEstimated: $21,000 - $30,000 a year Apply Now Education * Bachelor's Degree * High School Diploma or GED Skills * Van Driver * Microsoft Office ATAs professional staff works to educate policymakers and the general public about the essential role trucking plays in the economy, promote responsible policies to improve highway safety and advance the industrys environmental goals. The Safety Intern will work with Safety Management Council staff primarily in preparation for the August National Truck Driving Championships and National Step Van Driving Championships. Through this experience, the intern to develop an understanding of major event planning, truckings safety practices, organizational and editing skills. If you have an interest in transportation logistics, safety, or occupational health this could be the internship for you! PRIMARY FUNCTIONS: Duties of the Safety Intern will include, but are not limited to: * Assisting SMC staff in organizational preparation for the National Truck Driving Championships; * Assist in the editing and proofing of the NTDC/NSVDC on-site program and other printed and electronic collateral related to the event; * Respond to phone and e-mail information requests concerning the Championships, the SMC and TSC, and other upcoming events; * Assist in updating, editing and combining two existing publications Conducting a Truck Driving Championships and Truck Driving Championships Course Diagrams & Championship Problems into one new publication; * Conduct research and produce at least one original article on a trucking safety/trucking industry-related occupational safety and health topic for the two councils journal, Driven; * Learn about ATAs various policy positions relative to safety, security and human resources. An ideal candidate for this role will be: * Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university; * Pursuing a BA/BS in Safety, Transportation Logistics, Occupational Health, or Business with an average 3.0 GPA; * Equipped with prior professional experience. Skill Requirements- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. Good understanding of office environment with great written and verbal communications skills.
