Metallurgist, Process Engineer Job Description Creating Long-Term Value Thru Relentless Innovation� ATI is a global manufacturer of technically advanced specialty materials and complex components. Our products support diverse markets and industries such as aerospace and defense, oil & gas, electrical energy, medical, automotive, and other industrial markets. Summary: The Metallurgist reports to the Process Engineering Manager, and establishes parameters and controls for metal processing (master melt) & casting. The Metallurgist evaluates and tests new alloys, performs root cause analysis for casting anomalies, and recommends and participates in the implementation of process improvement initiatives. Essential Functions: * Works safely by following all safety rules and safe work practices. Always considers safety before action. * Holds technical responsibility for the metallurgical requirements for Casting, Heat Treating, Welding and Mastermelt departments, as well as HIP and material testing of metals. * Holds technical responsibility for developing new alloys. * Holds full technical responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing and coordinating assignments. * Evaluates product quality and recommends and implements process changes to obtain a Cpk of 1.33 or greater. * Writes control procedures to define processes and establish control limits. * Refines processes through the development of new techniques, materials, and equipment and by reestablishing control limits. * Determines and specifies, through statistical evaluation, the acceptable levels for process variables to insure product quality. * Qualifies new materials through testing and evaluating process responses. * Obtains Nadcap certification for welding and heat treating audits. * Performs internal and vendor qualification audits to ensure compliance with process procedures and requirements. * Represents the company in off-site project/technical meetings and seminars. * Trains Technicians, Engineers, and others as required. * Supports the company goals regarding inventory, cost of quality, profit and delivery. * Other duties as required. Requirements Education, Certifications and Experience: * 4 year degree in Metallurgical or Materials Science Engineering required. * Minimum 4 years of experience working in an aerospace manufacturing organization. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities typically required to perform the essential functions of this job: Knowledge of: * Microsoft Office Suite programs (proficient in Outlook, Excel, Word). Skilled in: * Effective communication in written form to vendors, customers, and all organization disciplines. * The effective organization and scheduling of work. Ability to: * Apply Continuous Improvement concepts, Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma techniques and principles to a production environment. * Use Design of Experiments. * Establish Project goals with defined timelines and accountability. * Work independently and in a team environment.
