Expresiones Program Summer Intern Hacienda Community Development Corporation - Portland, OR Full-time$16 - $18 an hour Save Education * Bachelor's Degree Skills * Computer Skills * Multilingual * Driver's License Benefits * Food Provided * Flexible Schedule Program/Department: Expresiones Program Supervisor: Youth and Family Services Program Manager Status: Non-Exempt/ 40 hours a week / Temporary (Summer intern) Compensation: $16-$18/hour depending on experience The Expresiones Program Summer Intern will collaborate with Hacienda CDC staff and partners to develop and implement educational and support activities for the parents and youth who participate in Haciendas summer program with Expresiones. Through outreach and relationship building, the Expresiones Program Summer Intern will promote Haciendas Summer Program to parents and serve as a cultural and linguistic liaison for parents. * Primary Tasks and Responsibilities: * Assist in the recruitment of youth living at Hacienda housing sites to participate in the summer program * Coordinate and lead quarterly parent meetings and skill building classes at each housing site * Create and manage partnerships to provide events, activities and on-site classes for parents * May assist parents in understanding the U.S. school system and with building relationships with schools and educators. * Provide outreach and support to parents and connect families with resources as needed * Recruit and manage volunteers to work in the summer program, including parents * Help administer program evaluation components by completing activity and attendance reports and assisting with data/information collection and input * Complete general office duties related to position (reminder phone calls, etc.) * Complete and submit, in a timely manner, all required reports and timesheets * Assist Program Coordinators with daily program implementation. * Skills and Educational Requirements: * A college degree and 2 years experience in community organizing, resident services or a related field - preferred * Bilingual - Spanish (required), Bilingual/Bicultural Somali (desirable) * Experience with popular education and community outreach methods that support adult engagement * Knowledge of local resources that support low-income families * Self-motivated, energetic and resourceful individual who enjoys working with diverse populations * Strong organizational and interpersonal communication skills * Basic PC computer skills using Microsoft operating system * Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including afternoon/evening work and weekends * A cooperative manner and ability to work as part of a team * A willingness to ask questions for clarification and job completion * A commitment to the mission of Hacienda CDC * Valid drivers license helpful but not required * Some lifting and transporting of course materials required * Working Conditions: This is a full-time, temporary paid Summer Internship. Some evening and weekend hours will be required for some classes and events. All positions at Hacienda CDC are at will and subject to annual performance evaluations.
