The City offers unique opportunities for students to gain hands-on and in-depth experience in a variety of disciplines related to local, regional, state, and federal government operations. We provide real world work assignments, which provide interns the opportunity to work side-by-side with professional City staff committed to teamwork and providing superior municipal services to the community of Santa Clarita. This internship will provide the opportunity for students to learn firsthand the dynamics of Economic Development in a local government setting. The Economic Development Intern will support the entire Economic Development Division, which includes business development, business attraction and business retention, and as well as film and tourism programs. A minimum of up to 30 hours per week is preferred. Expected duration of this internship is August 2019 to July 2020. DESCRIPTION/DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Research and identify potential businesses or special events to attract to the Santa Clarita business community - Draft correspondence - Create promotional materials - Perform website updates, such as OldTownNewhall.com - Create content for VisitSantaClarita.com - Create, monitor, and analyze social media content from partners and sponsors - Assist the Film Office with monitoring and notification Education and Experience If you are a current undergraduate student or a recent college graduate in the field of business administration, public administration, political science, or marketing and are interested in gaining meaningful, hands-on work experience at the local government level, this may be the program for you. Knowledge and Abilities - General understanding of governmental organizations and municipal operations - Excellent oral and written communications - Flexibility and ability to handle multiple priorities - Excellent customer service skills - Research techniques, survey methods, and data collection - Strong social media skills including proficient use of Instagram and Twitter - Ability to foster effective working relationships with all levels of staff and the community - Computer experience, including Outlook, Word, and Excel Additional Information ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: An online completed City application is required to apply for this position.
