PTS College Intern - Building and Safety Salary $19.81 - $25.03 Hourly Location CA, CA Job Type Part-time/Temporary/Seasonal Department Public Works Job Number 2019-6 Closing 7/1/2019 12:00 PM Pacific Description/Duties & Responsibilities The City of Santa Clarita is committed to providing a challenging and meaningful work experience for college students. The City offers unique opportunities for students to gain hands-on and in-depth experience in a variety of disciplines related to local, regional, state, and federal government operations. We provide real world work assignments, which provide interns the opportunity to work side-by-side with professional City staff committed to teamwork and providing superior municipal services to the community of Santa Clarita. A minimum of 20-40 hours per week is preferred. Expected duration of this internship is from July 2019 to September 2019. DESCRIPTION/DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Assist with plan check and inspection of small building projects in the City - Assist with research and interpretation of various building codes - Assist with review of construction drawings and calculations for compliance with state construction codes under the supervision of City plan check staff Education and Experience If you are a current or recent undergraduate or graduate student of an accredited Mechanical or Electrical Engineering program and are interested in gaining meaningful, hands-on work experience at the local government level, this may be the program for you. Current undergraduate students must be within 30 units of graduating with their Bachelor's degree. Knowledge and Abilities - Knowledge and interest in electrical machines, power systems, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, thermodynamics, and energy efficiency - Strong analytical and problem solving skills - Strong interpersonal skills - General understanding of governmental organizations and municipal operations - Excellent verbal and written communications - Flexibility and ability to handle multiple priorities - Excellent customer service skills - Ability to foster effective working relationships Additional Information ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: An online completed City application is required to apply for this position.
