Job Information Chapman University SUM19 Student Graphic Design Assistant, 6272 in Orange, California Position Summary Information Job Description Summary The Graphic Design Assistant will design printed and digital media for the Office of Diversity and Inclusion and the Chapman Diversity Project. They will work collaboratively on the conceptualization and implementation of designs while sustaining and developing their own aesthetic. Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop are required and an eye for the application of visual marketing is highly valued. Designers will also assist with department marketing initiatives and adhere to department guidelines. Workload is tailored to the designers schedule and flexibility within standard operating hours. A portfolio must be submitted with application. Responsibilities * Work alongside professional staff to develop, plan, and complete graphic design requests * Design new, visual ways to present information specific to each audience though creativity and design capability * Properly build accessible documents, flyers, posters, and infographics at the appropriate size and color profile for the intended use * An understanding of document resolution, cropping, packaging InDesign files, and using vector images is important * Proofread and edit documents prior to final printing or publication, including making edits to designs based on feedback from multiple staff members. * Design rough drafts and provide regular updates on the status of projects while working with feedback on each draft * Identify and develop compelling content for use in social media or blog posts * Act as liaison for the Office of Diversity and Inclusion * Respond to all communication within 24 hours of receiving the correspondence * Maintain an accurate and updated work log * Save all files to student share folder with the proper file structure * Assist the Office of Diversity and Inclusion in upholding all University policies * Assist in Office of Diversity and Inclusion department-wide events * Assist in other duties as assigned Required Qualifications * Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop * Ability to handle data and sensitive information with confidentiality * Ability to take initiative and work independently * Strong interpersonal and customer service skills * Ability to use standard office equipment including computer, copier, telephones * Proficiency in Google Docs, Microsoft Office, or similar productivity suites * Prior experience and/or completed courses in graphic design * Ability to understand and interpret brand guidelines * Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills Ability * Minimum of a 2.5 GPA Desired Qualifications * Knowledge of or experience with campus policies and procedures * Intermediate photography or videography skills * Effectiveness in establishing rapport with students, staff, and faculty members * Ability to work with frequent interruptions * Ability to assist deployment of marketing materials Special Instructions to Applicants Please include links to previous graphic design work or portfolio for consideration.
