UMEC's mission includes advising on Utah's medical workforce needs, influencing graduate medical education (GME) financing policies, and working with state legislators, schools of medicine, and numerous healthcare organizations to ensure that Utah's healthcare workforce is sufficient to serve Utah communities.What Does the UMEC Intern Do?We are looking for two part-time interns to work on several projects.The first intern will spend 10 hours per week working on an assigned project around clinical placement and preceptorship with senior leadership from a local healthcare system. Another 10 hours per week will be spent supporting UMEC staff with various projects related to our work.The second intern will primarily work on updating one of our healthcare workforce profession supply studies. This work will include updating survey instruments, managing data collection process, and data entry. This intern will also handle analysis of collected data, building of data visualizations and producing a written report, workforce projections and presentations of work to an advisory committee and to our Council.The interns will assist staff with other projects as needed based on skill and interest. Possibility for work on more advanced data wrangling and data modeling projects depending on time and ability.Skills:* Ability to organize data and translate it into useable information in the form of succinct written text, analysis and data visualizations required.* Work experience or classroom knowledge of data collection and analysis using SPSS, Microsoft Excel and Tableau data visualization software or similar programs required.* The following skills are not required for either position but preference may be given to candidates also familiar with data analysis in R, building queries in an SQL database or data modeling using Python.Qualifications:* We would prefer students that can use this project as part of an internship requirement for a college program. Public policy, public administration, public health or healthcare administration students with information systems or business analytics experience preferred.Work Schedule:* Time commitment required is a minimum of 20 hours per week, Monday through Thursday for one year.
