Field Biologist Title Field Biologist Location Riverside, CA Category Environmental Consulting Description LSA is seeking to hire an experienced Field Biologist for an hourly staff position to assist our Riverside and Palm Springs offices with projects in western Riverside County and the Coachella Valley. The ideal candidate will possess: Solid field survey experience performing biological surveys, including general biological resources, nesting birds, and preconstruction surveys Construction monitoring experience that includes interacting with a contractor or a construction management firm Strong knowledge of inland/desert Southern California flora and fauna, including at least two years working in western Riverside County and/or the Coachella Valley Position Requirements Position Requirements Perform extensive field work and associated office tasks, including report writing. Flexible schedule availability and long hours. This includes early mornings and may include weekends. Proficiency with Microsoft Office products as well as experience using hand-held GPS equipment for navigation and/or data collection. Self-motivated and strong initiative to complete assigned tasks with little to no direct supervision in a timely fashion, including prompt and dependable production of detailed field notes (daily, weekly, and monthly). The ability to walk a minimum of 10 km/day in challenging terrain and harsh and rapidly changing environmental conditions; be capable of carrying a 2530 pound backpack, and otherwise be in good physical condition. Possess a valid, state-issued drivers license and have a clean driving record. Use of a personal vehicle is required. Ability to operate a 4WD vehicle on- or off-road if required. Desired Qualifications CDFW Scientific Collecting permit. Experience conducting surveys and monitoring for desert tortoise is highly desirable. Experience conducting jurisdictional delineations. Experience with water quality sampling/monitoring (e.g., pH, turbidity) Education The successful candidate must possess a B.S. degree from an accredited college or university in biology, botany, ecology, environmental science, natural resources, or a closely related discipline.
